[Anime] how do you choose a good anime?

read the synopses and watch the first few episodes. that wont guarantee you'll like it. but if you cant stop than you know you have a winner.

This is what I do. Read Sypnosis then watch a few then make a judgement call. If I'm lucky like with Death Note judgement calls don't even cross my mind.

It can be difficult to choose a good anime, here's a few things I do when choosing one to watch:

1. Look over the basic description of the anime, avoiding spoilers of course

2. I then watch the first two or three episodes of the anime and then judge it from that

3. How it's dubbed and subbed also comes into my choice, if the voice acting is terrible or the subs make no sense I won't watch it

First i look at the character models and see if i like it then. I look at the animation (especially for action) if its fluid enough for me. Then the synopsis.

I look to see what it's about and whether or not it has good artwork. I am a particularly a fan of Clamp and Visual Arts/Key.

I know someone else posted AnimeNewsNetwork. That's where I usually go to look at the desciption of the series. If it seems interesting I'll download the first episode. If the first episode seems at least a little interesting (since some animes get more interesting a few episodes in at least in my experience) I'll download a few more. If I'm a bit iffy on the series I'll download the entire series and watch it through to the end even if I don't necessarily like it because as someone else posted sometimes it takes to mid series for the series to get interesting. Also, I look at the screenshots people post on downloads or I go to a forum topic where people suggest anime and look at the artwork. The other thing I look at is what other people say about the series. I don't always base my decision on this but sometimes the descriptions I find just aren't enough.

I have a friend in Anime club at school. He usually feels me in on whats good and what not. I tend to just look through random mangas as well. Hoping to find a gem.

I check the rating and also the genre.

I first see if it has giant robots in it. If it does, i know it will be lame. the same goes for most other shows with japanese stereotypes like all those weird schoolgirl shows

I normally look it up on Myanimelist or Animenewsnetwork, if I like the description I take a look at it

well sometimes from the cover   but this totally wrong and sometimes from people rating

first stage: rating - synopsis - reviews - dub/sub

second: most important of all..characters/protagonist must be epic and attaching

I look for summaries that sound new and different.

I usually hit up anidb and find linking anime to my favorite shows.

I guess you can choose a good anime by 

1- reading other people reviews

2- graphics

3- you will notice if the anime is good or not within the first 5 episodes

4- graphics

5- the uniqueness of the story

read suggestions other people gave check them out look at art style then the story line and the genre if you like it after that watch the first 2 episodes and if u dont like it watch another 2 then youre more than likely hooked.

I personally begin watching anime movies and then if I like their episode counterparts I give the show a go.

I watch a bit of the anime and if it draws my attention, I see it.

I tend to watch anime on a whim so choosing one is sometimes easy.  i like ecchi and action and comedy.  any of those or combination of the three are key for me
