Hiya! I'm newbie in the anime world and it is becoming very, very addicting. Would love to some recommendations as I am not to familiar with some of titles. So far I've watched:

Basically a +1 to everything posted as of yet. That should sustain you for awhile.

 

Some longer series that you might like would be One Piece and Fairy Tale.

I have a lot of friends who don't really appreciate anime for what it is but, anyone starting off usually loves Cowboy Bebop.

It's an interesting story about a group of Bounty Hunter's in the future flying around doing odd jobs and getting into trouble. The beats for the show are great and there's a lot of plot development throughout the series.

 

Another good one for the masses is Black Lagoon. It' a about a group of modern day pirates who operate out of a World War II torpedo boat in Thailand doing drug and people trafficking. Very cool.

Try watching Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, and Black Lagoon.

Try watching Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. It's nothing like any of those, but it was my own gateway anime. If you want something to tickle your funny bone, I'd recommend Gurren Lagann, Desert Punk, and The Irresponsible Captain Tylor. That's my short list, anyway. I definitely recommend Cowboy Bebop which is one of the best... wait let me rephrase that. It is the best anime of all time and I think you should give it a chance.

New..... one thought.   Don't worry just watch every thing.  

Don't actually worry what any one says.  No offence the posters above. 

 

Instead just watch what you can.  Define what you like then search that out instead.  That as a first timer its more fun.
