What made 2014 a stellar year for the board? I wish I would have found this place a long time ago so I'm genuinely curious how it's changed over the years.

Well, this topic and other topics on here were far more active, a lot more members would stop by, I made a number of friends on here, IPS 3.0 was better than the current theme, and it was just a more fun environment in general.

If you'd like to see it for yourself you can. https://web.archive.org/web/20140302113730/http://forums.kametsu.com/

You should have been around in 2006 then or even 2011. =P Back in 2006 we didn't have downloads, so every member was here to actually discuss things, and discussion was thriving. We'd have thousands of posts per day from hundreds of users discussing their hobbies: video games, anime, movies, books. We had a roleplay section where members would roleplay with one another through various stories which were later condensed into fan fictions (I believe one was even turned into a book at some point). The community was vastly different, and there is only a couple people still around today that was from that era. We were much tighter knit and more 'community'-like. Every member knew each other and we even chatted outside the community. We even had teams in games such as World of Warcraft and Phantasy Star Online private servers where members would go and play with each other. None of this happens anymore, and discussions are pretty much dead. Outside of downloads, the community has been dwindling for the last 4-5 years. I'd say a lot of what had a massive impact on things was the merger with C-W. The amount of noobs pouring in, ran off several core Kametsu users of past and discussions slowly began to die off. Outside of IRC, I'm not very close to any other members of the community anymore either...

Also back when we were on vBulletin, I custom designed our skin/theme myself as can be seen here in 2011: https://web.archive.org/web/20111014051049/http://forums.kametsu.com/

ah that must have been great, sad that I wasn't a member back then! Still I like this place a lot and not just for the downloads but its nice to discuss and view the latest news and latest series and stuff, albeit the only reason I found the forum in the first place was by searching for downloads! Its also nice to see the uploaders you get content from, previous to coming here I just mindlessly clicked download on stuff whereas here I have a far greater awareness of what goes into releases and I guess I appreciate the effort people put in a lot more now I understand the processes they go through :)

I'm sorry it's not still as good as you remember and that things have slowed down.

As for myself, I'm hoping to make some friends here with similar interests. All the forums I used to frequent are gone, and I took a break from joining a new one for a considerable amount of time. So unfortunately I have seen the dynamics change in a forum before, so I can understand the nostalgia you feel for how it used to be.

Wow! This forum has been around for a long time! I assumed it had been but I didn't realize just how long.

I can't even imagine how I'd attempt to keep up with thousands of posts a day! I could get behind some roleplaying action (I still roleplay on Dreamwidth but I have roleplayed on forums in the past) myself. It truly sounds like that would have been an excellent time to have been a member. I like the sound of a community going off to play MMOs together too. I could only usually get maybe one or two people from the rp-community to join me on Aion from time to time and even that was infrequent. At least there are still a few of you so you can reminisce about good times but I wish there was something that could be done to encourage that sort of camaraderie among members, not just here but also on places like Aim and Dreamwidth.

Also.. I like all the layouts everyone linked to. It reminds me of when I used to have a board myself. I miss designing websites and such!
