brotheralex
some people just like watching a anime that they can easily understand. For instance people want to pay attention to whats happening in the movies/shows not the dialog text at the bottom. though for me this is not really the case as i watch both.A good example of dubs better than subs would be dragon ball z, though some of the dialog sounds stupid at times, the voices actually fit the characters for me, however the sub version I do not get how goku's voice is so high. The Cake
Honestly, I just want to watch anime in the language I'm most comfortable with. Unfortunately we dub watchers are cursed with having to wait an agonizing period of time before we get our dubs.
Reptoholic
I think a lot has to due with what each individual has gotten use too. I prefer dub, because that is what I started watching it in and I have gotten accustomed to it, But I have watched sub and enjoyed them as well. One thing about sub is their is a larger collection then dub. I just hate watching the same series in dub and sub, I like to remember voices with their characters. It is frustrating when the new season in shows don't come out in dub and you watch it in sub and have to get use to a new voice.
whitee_rabbit
Seriously, I already know that Japanese dubs are waaay better than the English dub BUT I'm just not into reading the subs while watching... it's kind of distracting in a way. Alkin
Well to me both are good mainly depends on the anime i watch though but for dub one of the upsides is that you don't have to read which some people appreciate and not focus on the subs and read also some people just like the voices better it all just depends on you and your habbits of reading or taste etc.
Dazzep
mostly because sometimes the subs cut out some bits, and probably the dub versions as well, but you get more the idea, is easier to understand (duh) and sometimes I also hate when the text blocks important parts of the image…
kupobob
i would say its because people are lazy. but i watch some in sub. but its that i cant watch sub after watching dub for a long time. so like i cant watch bleach in sub because its screws with my head lol
ThatBoyNice247
Because I don't speak Japanese I speak EnglishPretty much this. If I lived in japan and spoke Japanese then watching sub wouldn't be a problem for me. Since I am an American and I speak English I would choose dub 100% of the time. I don't mind sub, but as soon as it gets dub I pretty much never watch the sub version again.
megatokyo13
I don't really mind watching it either way, but mostly I watch the original as it turns out to be a lot better. I have found that there are some dubs that I prefer the voices rather then the original subs.
†Shazi
it depends on the anime usually, i tend to watch dubs simply because i can't focus on the screen for long enough to read it all, but dubs i can turn away and still get the general idea of what's going on.i tried watching heltaia subbed and the jokes were to hard to understand in japanese, whereas in english i nearly wet myself in laughter, because i got the jokes, and also the accents were hilarious.it's dubs for me, i find a lot of characters in japanese have annoying voices, but in english they don't. i dunno where people get the "flat and emotionless" they're just as rich as the subs a lot of the time.unless they're fandubs, fandubs are terrible
Ayrtoo
It really does differ.Like if i look at recent anime...Fairy tail, although i think im a little biased... I dont really think english dub would cut it.There is too much drama and emotion in the story to be shown through in a english dub.
Rarenight
Original language all the way.Dubbing bastardizes the voices, throws the lip-sync off, and ruins the mood and the tension present in original scenes. As a language, Japanese moves at a different pace than English. The animators timed the animation to conform to Japanese, not English. As a result it gives dubs the impression of being rushed.
Amajukiki0
only Japanese dub with sub because original sound better than Eng dub why ? because when people dub Japanese anime with English voices that anime becomes like funny show without emotions in voices maybe some new anime are god Eng dubbed but ....... raveshadow
For me, it depends on the type of anime and how good the the voice acting. I often try to get dual audio anime if possible. If the anime has a japanese feel, for example it is based in a Japanese school then I tend to pick Japanese audio with subs.
ragnawind
only Japanese dub with sub because original sound better than Eng dub why ? because when people dub Japanese anime with English voices that anime becomes like funny show without emotions in voices maybe some new anime are god Eng dubbed but .......Not really true. The only one like that was Ghost Story (with the english dub making it seem more funny than the Japanese version). The way you typed that makes it seem like you think all anime that is dubbed is like Ghost Story, but all of the english dubs besides Ghost Story are at least 90% accurate to the original. hero9989
The results of the post don't exactly surprise me, given the name of the site and all . But yeah, like the majority - I prefer english dubbed. Reading is great and all, but I find having to read subtitles just takes too much away from what's happening on screen. Instead of a subbed anime, I think manga is much better, you can take your time to follow the images and the text.
Tanthias
For now at least, English dubbed. Simply because I'd like to understand what's going on (don't know enough Japanese yet to understand in things that aren't dubbed) and I'm usually doing something else as well so subtitles don't really work. BABYJOE1992
I prefer English for now. You seem to miss stuff if you are listening to it and Japanese and reading the subs. I am working on my Japanese now, so maybe someday I will change my mind. I don't think that it will be any time soon though.
Leviathan
Well to me it all depends on the type of anime. I enjoy dub of animes whose prime genre is Comedy. I mean it's better to hear the characters say stupid things rather than read them. Again for action animes like Naruto Shippuden or FMA i wouldn't mind seeing the subs. Ofcourse in both cases the sub and dub has to be of acceptable quality.
ribbit3
I think it depends on the anime; some - such as trinity blood - the english acting and voices don't seem to match the character or the acting just isn't good, while others do an at least decent job with the english and I prefer it if it's good, such as with the ghost in the shell series (anime series, NOT the movies - though I don't think the second one was ever english dubbed)
