Encoding & Converting

I used handbrake for a while. Solid program, easy to use. Unfortunately, it choked on some .mkv files and gave me a bad conversion. So I have a second setup I use for special applications.

AviSynth + VirtualDub or zarx264gui. Steep learning curve, but AviSynth can read anything you have a codec for and serve it to VirtualDub, which can spit it out as a .avi encoded however you want (including something lossless, like Lagarith). AviSynth can also serve the file to zarx264gui, which can encode the file with x264, making it easy to upload.

Complicated process, but it gives you the most control over your video.

I probably have the same copy of GT and tried converting a couple of years ago. The problem i had was the converted audio was always off no matter which program i used. Im still not sure if this is right but the conclusion i came to was that it was due to the variable bitrate (.rmvb, the vb stands for variable bitrate) being coverted into constant bitrate throwing off the video-audio sync. Best of luck with it!

You must have not tried at all, if you type it into google then you can find thousands. But I would reccomend FormatFactory, its a converter that converts anything into anything and can adjust the audio, subtitle, and resolution while you are at it. But if you just want them converted, its drag and drop

Wasn't looking for this, but I'll download it. It could always be useful :D

Thanks for the info! :dhh:
