Beave
The graph showing Seagate 3TB HD's with high failure rate is correct. I work on those a lot in Data Recovery. THe failure rate on 3TB HD's is very high on all manufacturers, but Seagate is the highest.

Mistagnerd
I've got about 7 hard drives. 4 of them are in my main system. 2TB - OS + Programs2x1TB - Manga+Comics (Windows Software Raid 0)4TB - Media Storage It just so happens that of all my hard drives my 2TB is failing. Which is ok because i've had it for a few years now.I'm looking at buying a few SSD's for a new build so i'll be migrating my OS to an SSD. Until then i've been running Ubuntu off a flash drive. EonJone
It never ceases to amaze me how many people run JBOD with no backup and/or redundancy. If you use WD instead of Seagate you wouldn't have to worry so much. =) The only drives I've ever had completely fail (unbootable) were Seagate and I've been using PCs since 1998. Anyhow I would like to start using raids, but the issue is the cashflow man. I'd like to get two or three of those boxes that hold 4-5 hard drives and run them in raids, but I need money I don't have. In this picture: G, H, I, J, and M are externals. C is an SSD; while E and F are internal WD Blues iirc. The only non-WD drive there is the SSD which if iirc is an ADATA. JUST CURIOUS ,WHICH HDD IS XIDE BOT

Xide is on a hard drive in a server located in a datacenter in Germany.

ElementalCards
Previously, I stated that I had no intentions of buying an external hard drive, but I take it back. With my ever-increasing collection of Pokemon episodes (in addition to Sailor Moon and CardCaptors encodes that I want to preserve), I'll need an external HD, just in case if my comp goes kaput. Which brand should I go for? I'll need one that won't get screwed easily.

I'd always recommend Western Digital. and I'd suggesting staying away from Seagate.
Smileyyakadoo
Whats wrong with seagate? never had any issues over 2 yrs with 1 1tb and 1 3tb, now i have 1 1TB & 3 3TB of Seagate Barracuda and holds what I need but my pc is a hackintosh/multimedia gamer and never had any problems with those HDD, they're not in ntfs format so hopefully I'm safer. It'll take forever to get better hdd right away if there that bad of what you say they are. unless your talking about another seagate. all my hdd are seagate barracuda. pretty much has a lot of media along with games and other data. Also have 1tb portable seagate...3-4yrs 500gb portable seagate..2-3yrs 2tb Toshiba External HDD..2yrs 2x 128gb SSD Samsung Pro 840..2-3yrs 1 256 Samsung Pro 840...1yr old old old pc's, few Western Digital HDD's. Never had issues losing stuff before, never ran into bad hdd's unless clean wiping the drive O_O...
