Based on history, MadHouse shows have had a bad reputation of not getting 2nd seasons. Though with how popular the series is and the fact that the movie is coming out, it may happen in the next few years.

The movies really good but MADHOUSE has supposedly put the show on hold as of now. There are articles that point out that the last 2 episodes were actually supposed to be from the second season. Any meh !@#$ MADHOUSE. The show was really good and was a commercial success and the studio has deep enough pockets to make a second season even if it weren't good, which is definitely not true in this case.
