What Do You Look For In Anime?

To those new to anime and to those who've watched plenty of anime alike, what decides the type of anime you watch and what factors decide how you rank an anime? This doesn't need to be too complex. It can range from the genre, animation studio, or more specifically; how an anime establishes their characters, how certain common anime tropes are used, the uniqueness of that anime compared to another that may be similar. Open to anyone, what preferences/opinions decide anime for you? I personally rank anime based off how well an anime separates itself from others as well as how unique the world and story are compared to past works and how specific characters are established to fit the overall story. Nonetheless, my preferred genres are Shounen, Action, Adventure, Romance, Comedy and Psychological. I frown upon anime that overuse common anime tropes that I've consistently seen done, but depending on how that world is established and the characters in it may change my mind otherwise. For instance, the rising of isekai (another world) anime is being over saturated and becoming a cliche plot point to do in anime, but there are still several that separate themselves from the rest that make me feel they were great anime in their own right (Ex. Re:Zero, Sword Art Online, Konosuba, The Devil Is A Part-Timer, No Game No Life, OverLord).

    Post your Smartphone Homescreen

I'd like to see/know and maybe have a chat about the following: a screenshot of your smartphone homescreen what smartphone you are using (if you don't mind telling) the "story" behind your wallpaper if applicable the launcher app you are using any other app(s) you frequently use and think is worth recommending I'll kick this off with mine: The wallpaper I composed myself. Hinata is a redraw by rosecross I got from putting in a request on animebytes a while back. The actual source is a screenshot off of some ending credits from Naruto (Shippuuden). The backdrop I put in myself. I am not completely satisfied with it but lack the motivation at the moment to search for a better one. Just like with my launcher app I keep returning to this motif because I simply like Hinata but especially in this getup and pose >_< My phone is LG's G4 still. I am not replacing it anytime soon, this gadget is going to stay till it breaks irreparably. My current launcher app is Smart Launcher Pro 3. It was recommended to me by some reviewer, I tested it, bought it, and got stuck with it till this day. I tried other launchers in the past, yet smart launcher just does it for me. For my other apps I'd recommend: Scout - an offline navigation app that considerably saves me energy SafeInCloud - the password manager app I use with my Nextcloud server Authy - for my 2FA-needs That's it. I am looking forward to your (maybe not so elaborate) replies.
  3. Hello all, First of all I'm glad to see the site humming again. I missed it greatly while it was having some hosting and technical troubles. I'm always on the look out for new anime series to enjoy but the corpus of material is so large I like to ask around for suggestions. Specifically, I enjoy anime with historical roots like Zipang, le Chev D'eon, and Soten Koru; anime with religious undercurrents like Chrono Crusade and Trinity Blood; and sci fi like Planetes, Cowboy Bebop, HOTD, or The Last Exile. Although I do like some big robot anime like Gundam or NGE, I'm not into that subgenre particularly. My list up there was by no means exaustive and I'm willing to givejust about anything a chance. As a nota bene though I have to say that I've probably seen most mainstream popular anime already (eg. Deathnote), which is why I have such difficulty finding new thing to watch. Thanks for your input!
  4. Hello! I only recently decided to venture out into manga would so i decided to ask for some advice... What websites to you use to search for new manga with tags (not MAL) (like AniDB for anime) Also I read few stories like Sundome, Mx0 and some others. So I realized that i dislike Coming of Age, High School/Club/School Life and a lot of drama stories. While everything else is okay and hence a second question What would you recommend to read for a beginner? and something that is completely finished and scanned (I prefer to read finished stories but if you would tell me when to stop it would be okay) Or something popular in manga world like Code Geass or Death Note in anime? Please to criticize because i realized that going thought MAL database without any idea of what to look for is pointless. and so Thanks in Advance! P.S. If its wrong place to post this question please move the topic
