mcmxcixmm
The hype about 4K (and now even 8K) seems like more of a fad than a trend to me. IMO going beyond 1080p is impractical for both viewing and storage. It also seems like a convenient distraction from the lack of 1080p TV signals. Seriously, why are we still forced to watch interlaced TV in 2017? (And that's without getting into the whole framerate mess, which also affects Blu-rays...) Tanis
Fuck no. There's really no reason to do so unless you hate money.
Ethereal
Some technologies are worth being early adopters on. 4k, though, is not one for me. The cost of a 4k television or monitor is ungodly right now, and not a lot of games - or movies/shows - have adopted 4k. When it becomes more affordable and more widespread (like Blu-Ray is at the moment), I'll consider making the jump.
ezikialrage
I'll wait until the costs go down and there is a wider selection of 4k media.
meepers
I'm waiting on 4k until the next standard is released for the format. I'll let others go out and buy all of the 'v.1' 4k equipment and rough it until things get ironed out
tomnook123
Hard drive capacity is a bit behind right now. I wouldn't be able to store my entire collection in 4K.
ragnawind
I don't see a reason to upgrade to 4K now or in the future. It is essentially more bloat than it is worth. You can't even really tell a difference between 4K and 1080p anyway on screens up to at least 60 inches.
Inverti
4k and 8k resolution are utter myths to me. Like many others, I am in agreement that anything beyond 1080p is impractical at best. Any dev is free to prove me wrong when they start making their myths an actual reality. olympustenay
I am not yet ready to make the jump to 4k. Its too expensive for me.

It is by no means as apparent as the jump from SD to HD but it is noticeable. Files being 4 times larger isn't worth it though.
thefarmboy
I won't be making the jump to 4K for a looong time, storage technology needs to advance, internet needs to get faster, giant TVs need to get cheaper. You either need a 60"+ TV or to sit too close to the screen to see any worthwhile difference. Plus, how much media can really take advantage of it right now? Yeah, 4K would be definite overkill for that, haha. It is often hard for me to distinguish between 720p and 1080p on my 42" TV, from where I sit at least.

I bet you'd notice the difference if you tried watching 480p on your TV, lmao It doesn't go full screen? And you usually sit a lot closer to a laptop than a TV but yeah the jump from 480p is definitely noticeable, it can be hard to go back haha! I was pretty late to update to 1080p/Blu-Ray as well though, didn't have a screen that could take advantage of it and I'd rather let others be guinea pigs when it comes to knew technologies. Lest we forget the ill fated HD DVD.
aukaauka
At the end of next year I'll be considering buying a 65 inch 4K OLED but my main use for that would be pc gaming since I doubt there will be much or if any animated content being released in 4K by then. I would be using it a fair bit for 4K Blu-ray released films but I don't usually watch live action shows too often.
thedoctor2014
I'm on the fence about getting 4K, I love new technology though money is a bit of an issue right now so it might be a bit before I can.
