†Emotional Outlet
Depends on whose music I'm listening toWhat music would that be? Is it conditional based on genre? Artist? Album? The tone of the song? The physical attractiveness of the artist?
Und3r_h3ro
Depends on whose music I'm listening toI agree sometimes I like it for the lyrics and sometimes for the beat but sometimes it both.
The Welsh Paddy
Good lyrics are a bonus, but I rarely actually pay attention to lyrics. I mean, a song can sound well and truly terrible even if it had the most beautiful lyrics ever. The two main things that hook me with a song is the groove and the melody. Much of the music I listen to is foreign, and so I don't understand what the hell the singers are going on about 99 percent of the time, but it appeals to me if it has a solid groove and a nice/catchy melody. I personally think they're the two most important aspects of a song. Well... and the mood, of course! dibsonodair
Definitely sound. Melodies and hooks are powerful things and a lot of the time, I find, they don't need vocals to enhance them. (Of course their are the few wonderful musicians who are able to pull off beautiful music along with powerful lyrics.
Beer
Sound. I have no problem listening to songs with lyrics in a language I don't understand (Rammstein most often).
Eazybcheezy
Generally sound. This is evidenced in the fact that I really only know the lyrics to parts in songs I find catchy.
J-Lord
Most music I listen to it is the combination of music and lyrics that make a song awesome! A good set of lyrics mixed well with the music can make an unbeatable song. Then you have Anime OST, just the music alone is awesome. So I would have to say the music more than the lyrics makes music special to me.
†poetictragedy
The physical attractiveness of the artist? This made me laugh, because sometimes that's how it happens for me. Before I started listening to Steam Powered Giraffe, I had only seen gifs of them on Tumblr. And because The Spine is super attractive, I had to look them up, and it all went downhill from there. DON'T JUDGE ME I'M SHALLOW.
†Emotional Outlet
Pretty much every new artist or song I listen to that isn't from my occasional dive into Jamendo or Pandora is because of GIFs on Tumblr, so I don't blame you, haha.  Not to mention it was because of my dash that I actually started watching MLP, just to see what the fuss is about. Alice
Well music is good, but if I don't like the lyrics...then the song is useless and annoying to me.

SaXplayin
Both! I like stuff like guitar riffs and solo's, but some meaningful lyrics can add so much more to a song.
jrb24
the lyrics can be ridiculous but if the artist has a great voice and the sound is awesome, chances are i'm going to like the song. but the difference between a great song and a good song is the meaning it has towards the listener and that is why the lyrics are so important. if it sounds good, people are going to listen to it, but if it sounds good and has meaning then it will become great. FinalFlash
Definatly lyrics, which in turn should also have a good sound base. The sound of most mainstream songs is so catchy but when you hear the lyrics you want to puke ...
