seirachan
I didn't build mine but someone I know did. He picked out all the parts, I bought, and he put it together, over $1000 in Canada.
idl12
I built mine myself, was a lot cheaper than buying a brand name 1, cost me about half the price of an Hp desktop with similar specs.
Nero D. Ace
lol, i thought this thread was for people who built their computers from SCRATCH. plastic, cores, monitor chips, mice and all.nah, i got mine assembled.

Shade_13
It was the only way to get a more or less modern machine where i live, even though i still had difficulties finding the parts i wanted, plus the price is higher here, and i kept putting it away till i grew sick and tired of it and went on a little compromise with the graphics card, got a Radeon 5750 in the end. Turns out wasnt a big loss at all, cause i ended up playing rarely and mostly old games. My cousin helped me put it all together. I didn't even change my monitor, got a seventeen inch crt still. Good thing the day i bought it i stopped checking on new hardware coming out every day, a pleasant relief.
RikuoAmero
well...I got mine from a store, came with a Radeon HD 5450, but I've since added a Blu-ray drive, swapped the 5450 for a 5770, and swapped out the old 350watt power supply for a 500 watt. I've also swapped out RAM on other computers, but not this one (no point yet, as no program or game I use needs more than 6GB yet)
-Zero-
I built mine completely from scratch....the only things I've changed are the hard drives....and I removed both my Vertex 2's(one of them died on me and it was set on RAID 0 so yeah....) and now I'm using a 128 Gb Crucial C300 Sata 6gb/s ssd....also, I had a HAF X case but there were problems with it so I recently changed to a Corsair Obsidian 800DIf anyone is interested, here are my system specs(everything except the watercooling setup)Processor: Intel Core i7 980x, (overclocked to 4.33 ghz, and watercooled)Motherboard: Asus Rampage III ExtremeStorage: 3 Seagate Barracuda XT 2 TB hard drives in Raid 10(upgrade from WD drives), and 128 Gb Crucial C300 ssd(for O.S and applications)Graphics: 2 Sapphire Radeon HD 5970 in CrossfireX(both overclocked and watercooled)PSU: Corsair AX1200 Power supplyMemory: G.Skill Ripjaws 12 Gb(3 x 4gb) ddr3 memoryOptical Drives: Lite-On iHBS212 Blu-ray BurnerH|T Omega Claro Plus+ 7.1 channel sound cardWindows 7 UltimateI might do one final upgrade for the HD 5970s, only if the HD 6990 is any better.... †ballard
I always build my desktops. I tend to have more appreciation for it when I make it myself... probably cuz the time and effort put into it.

†L4ugh
I built all my past desktops, but my current main desktop is a gifted HP. In its defense, I have replaced everything in it except for the mobo and cpu/heatsink.
Chupathingy220
I bought mine from HP with some of their offerings on upgrades, but i replaced the graphics card and RAM myself, making it a much better computer overall.
realmzmaster
I purchased my media center Gateway off of Ebay. I proceed to upgrade many of the components. It ended up being cheaper than buying a new one which I would still have to upgrade. I use to build computers from scratch, but work and life no longer allow that kind of time sink. Kaiten
I built mine from scratch. Got the parts from PB Tech a PC store here in NZ. It works out to be a lot cheaper to but the parts separately and build it than buying a branded one. And generally you can get a lot better parts out of it as well. Koby
I've purchased one desktop and one laptop myself. However I was given quite a few desktops before.I've actually repaired or upgraded a couple of them (mostly just bigger HHD's, dvd burner, ram).. but I've never actually built one myself and probably wouldn't be able to. I wouldn't want to risk trying without someone around with experience and I don't know anyone around who'd know how.
