I would also like to add that closing the lid after you pee or poop before flushing is a good idea too, since your own waste can become aerosol and shoot up into the air. This would be the reason doctors recommend keeping your tooth brush enclosed in a container, but the bigger issue would be the mist from the toilet ending up in your respiratory tract.
