† cloud1414
Completely over the top, even compared to everything else we're up against: Entertainment industry sources are leaking that they've convinced Internet service providers to start restricting people's web access. If you're accused of downloading or streaming three files they'll consider messing with your Internet connection -- and maybe even decide what sites you're allowed to visit. The MPAA and RIAA have convinced companies like Comcast, AT&T, and others to voluntarily create a "Three Strikes" policy -- yes, that's really what they are calling it. CNET reports that your Internet service provider will respond to online file sharing with censorship tools like: "Throttling down" your Internet bandwidth and speed; Limiting your access to the Web; Controlling what websites you are allowed to visit; And requiring you to attend pirate school to be educated on copyright law. Will you act now to fight this new ridiculous proposal? If you sign the petition at right, we'll automatically generate an email under your name and address to the lobbyists for Comcast and AT&T -- including former Republican Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott -- containing this language:NOTE TO AT&T AND COMCAST: Sources are reporting that you are preparing to implement a "Three Strikes" proposal to restrict users' Internet access. As a customer who cares deeply about Internet freedom I urge you to oppose Internet censorship and reject this proposal.Just sign on at right and we'll send an email to the head honchos at AT&T and Comcast. The original CNET article on the proposal can be found here.Source: http://act.demandprogress.org/sign/three_strikes/?source=fb
† RazorDan
What?! What?!!! They can't do this! This is basic rights! Watch if they go ahead with it, there'll be tons of hacker groups that will totally f up their everything. This is US only right? Petitions and riots on the way. They can't even be considering this. Koby
What you don't know is Comcast has secretly been doing this for like the past 5 years already. They outright block P2P programs like torrents etc once they catch you using it once, they throttle the P2P connections without even catching you doing anything bad, and they throttle or disconnect your service without warning and will still charge you for services you don't get unless you call in and cancel. Comcast has a bad history and I would advise everyone to stay clear of them.As for AT&T they recently added a new bandwidth cap and if you exceed it you'll either lose internet service for the rest of the month or your bill will skyrocket for every GB you go over. The cap is ridiculously low and can easily be used up from just regular internet browsing, streaming, and video gaming without actually downloading anything huge.So honestly neither of the two ISP's are any good to begin with and you should have switched or stayed away from them anyhow. I just hope other ISP's don't start following suit otherwise internet and internet downloading will possibly die out.
→Speed←
That is some very nice info koby whether true or not(i have no reason not to believe it xD) but I have not had that happen with comcast so i honestly dont care if its happening..(i look out for number 1 when it comes to petty shit like internet..even though i wish i could share it with some people ) but comcast did shut down their NZB server suposedly to stop/prevent child porn....... and nobody at their support number even know about NZB.. and the few that do just google it >_> and tell you HOW TO DISABLE THE SERVICE(stupid punks xD why the hell would i download child porn?? i wouldnt..) but them shutting down the NZB server is the only issue ive ever had with them.. when people judge all of comcast its just as bad as judging a race of people(jewish, italian, german, american, etc people) and most times alot of people believe the stuff that person judged them for xDEdit: i forgot to mention im talking about comcast not AT&T xD

Goldstandard90
I'm ashamed to admit that I have AT&T. Might have to look into a new internet provider amongst other things should I ever get affected by this. And requiring you to attend pirate school to be educated on copyright law.Pirate School...really? *facepalms*
RoninSoldier
This is completely ridiculous, but after thinking about it from there perspective it would allow AT&T, Comcast, etc. to throttle connections, which would reduce the operating cost of there network. alterer motives, I do think it is possible . Krogothwolf
I wouldn't get bent out of shape over this till there is an actual news article on this aside from a single blog posting on cnet about this.

Bardon
I assume nobody else noticed how this new one happens to be a combo sequel of its predecessor bills? < The ultimate reason why its complete and utter fail! After all, if the smaller ones didn't work then what makes them think they'll be able to win this by having everything they proposed in one deluxe package? Also:And requiring you to attend pirate school to be educated on copyright law.Ok I seriously have no idea WTH this means.....Can something this retarded even be possible? And are they really willing enough to penalize charges, restrict net access, educate peepz on how its bad to pirate someone else's intangible objects, spy on the interwebz, send any/all individuals to jail for leeching/pirating/using copyrighted material.....just so they could protect their imaginary money? Lolwut? Yeah, good luck america in trying to do something so ridiculously out of your reach. You failed many times before and this time you won't be any smarter.
