Recently I've been playing alot of fantasy rpgs like Two Worlds II and the Dragon Age II demo, this coupled with announcements like Skyrim: Elder Scrolls V and a long discussion with some folks in the CB (you know who you are...XP) has made me want to try my hand at fantasy writing, something I've always wanted to do. I ahve taken inspiration from the two games mentioned and various books I have read like the Inheritance Cycle and Trudy Canavan's series'. So here it is. A spur of the moment kinda story!

Because I dont like sign-ups Ive thought that I'll start the story when I can and anyone who wants to join can just join... believe me I think I might need help for character names and such...but the main things like magic and such I have already thought out...

If ya wanna sign up follow this template, but KEEP IT SIMPLE:

Name: If you could please give me a full name like Anras Rune

Race: I'll let you choose between Humans, Noble Elves, Silver Elves (wood elves), Dwarves, Demons (they wont be like you think, so watch out!), Angels (like the demons, not what you think) and last of all Dragons (again, nothing like what you think so be carefull) there are other races but they arent optional.

Class: Three main classes to choose from; Warriors, Mages and Rogues (like Dragon Age there is sub classes, also carefull if you choose Mage as I'll explain after)

Status: Are you a noble or a commoner, a criminal or a traveler...you decide but try to make it fit your class please.

Affiliation: There are three main factions, all depending on your race, but if you want to be in a smaller faction like a thieves guild or something then be my guest.

Anyways, heres a little back story, which I will add to with every chapter...

Prologue: The Rise to Power

Many things had changed in recent years. The land of Relisquarta, which had fought fiercely for it's independence, had finally become free. The Midhardan Regency had been overthrown and the realm was at peace for the first time in centuries. This was all thanks to the Relisquartan's new found "Gods" that had shown them how to truly control magic, something that the Regency had kept from the public. This, coupled with their alliance with the dwarves, who had been opressed by the Regency as well, had led them to victory.

In the wake of this bloody war a new religion was formed by the Relisquartans, revolving around these "Gods" and their holy magicks. The Holy Protectorate was born, and it's mission was to combat the "unholy" magicks used by the Regency and bring order to the realm. This was done using the Martyrs, a monastic order with combatted magic with their holy devotion...or so the rumours say.

So begins our tale, with magic, myth and unholy unions abound, till the day the Gods see fit to grant us peace...

Chapter 1: Teachings

"Magic, the force that once permeated the world so strongly that the heavens themselves weeped for all life. Magic is the life force of all creatures given to us by the Divine Lords who we serve, yet wild magic is also it's destroyer. Without order magic creates chaos. But magic can be controlled too some degree. Today we will learn how to use our devotion to the Gods as a..."

How can this so called High Priest could be so ignorant as too what magic truly is...

The room was a large lecture hall made of a greyish-white granite. The open gaps between the large pillars let in a lot of light which gave the lecturer, an elderly man in robes that matced the colour of the surrounding rock, an aura like effect. The surrounding rows of seats were packed with more people in the grey-white robes, althought all of their robes didn't have overcoats of darker blue, like the lecturer had. Also they were all younger, the eldest being no more than 4 and twenty. They were all sitting, enthralled by the older priest, who was explaing the importance of a Focus, or a Totem as it is often called.

"Every mage must use a Totem to focus his thoughts and energy the way he wants. This is why you will use the staffs, as they are a larger, more simple method of Focus. When you have more experience you will be able too..."

I've had enough of this old fool. Ignorant swine!

Near the back of the class, at the top row, an apprentice stood up and made his way to the middle set of stairs. As he did the lecturer stopped his speech and looked at the student in surprise. The rest of the class turned to look at him. The lecturer took a slow breath and spoke.

"What is the meaning of this? You are interupting an imp-" he began before being silenced.

"The meaning of this is, well to putit frankly, you are a fool. A concieted, ignorant fool and I dare say this entire Divine University is as idiotic as you!" shouted the student as he made his way down the steps.

The lecturer, who was shocked at the outburst went to shout a retort back at the student, but was instead interrupted by a wave of the student's hand. The lecturer's eyes grew wide as he saw what the student was about to do.

I'll show these fools what true magic is...

The student clenched his fist pulling it towards his chest. In his mind he focused on his emotions and selected the right one for the job, contempt. He thought it would be a fitting end for this charlatan, to be killed by his contempt of their religion. He molded his emotion to fit his need and focused it into a single thought. As he felt the power of his life seap into this thought and he directed it towards the lecturer, using his Totem, which was a large jewelled ring on his hand. As he opened his palm a large flash of green light, the same colour as the stone in his ring, sprung forth from his palm and smote the lecturer square in the chest. The elderly man flew back against the wall behind him and managed to crack the black board, accompanied by the unmistakable sound of his pulverised ribs. The students around the caster cringed at the sound and started to panic and scream.

"Pathetic weakling" said the student, looking at the corpse of the lecturer. He turned to head for the door when it quite literally exploded.

Two soldiers rushed in with their swords held poised to attack. They were both wearing poilshed metal armor, which had a dark silver color, along with matching shields. The armor was decorated with dark etchings that seemed to contort the shape of the body. Due to the armor it was impossible to tell what their gender was, but judging by general build, one was a man and the other a woman. The student turned to see who had burst in the room and as soon as he saw them his eyes filled with hate.

Martyrs! I will kill them ALL!!!

The student lost all focus and instead put all his rage and anger into one thought, destruction. As he raised his fist he uttered a gutural roar and released all his pent up rage and hate through his Totem. The ring glowed bright for what seemed like an age before releasing the deadly spell. But the Martyrs were ready for it. The man raised his shield and loosened his stance. A strange white light played across the lines of his armor and his shield, a heraldric style shield with similar lines as the armor, began to glow. The woman got behind the man and ducked down, ready to pounce.

The student's spell flew from his Totem in the form of a huge arc of green lightning, which struck the male Martyr on his shield. The stream of lightning blew the shield from his hand and arced off in all direction, hitting a few of the other terrified students, killing them instantly. The electricity began to course over the body of the Martyr, who seemed to be stuck on the spot. The caster was continuing the spell as long as possible, trying to get past the Martyr's devoted defense. He didn't notice the other Martyr till he was too late. The female Martyr had managed to jump around her partner and flank the castor on his right side. As he noticed this he stopped the spell and cast another at the female, just as she pounced in the air to bring her sword down upon him. The second lightning arc hit her in the chest, but she hurtled onwards and severed the castors arm near the elbow. He looked down in disbelief at his newly stumped arm and went to say something. He never had a chance. The female Martyr had shrugged off the second attack and brought her sword in a spinning arc to sever the castors neck, stopping him in his tracks.

"So I commit you to the will of the Gods, heretic" she said as she stood up and bowed her head towards the headless corpse. She turned to tend to her partner and saw that he had succumbed to the effects of the spell and had died. She uttered a silent prayer and sheathed her sword as more Martyrs rushed into the room ready for anything. They saw the scene before them and did the same as the woman, sheathing their swords and uttering silent prayers as did the rest of the students.

Only one didn't, another who sat near the back. He looked on in shock as he thought of how his fellow student had released such power. I have never seen so much power. How did he do it if he didn't believe? he thought to himself, keeping his thoughts his own. He knew that this line of thought would be deemed heretical but the seeds of doubt aren't easily uprooted...
