[SOLVED] 3 tier hard drive system

Ok so maybe this probably a really expensive idea but:

What if i installed my os on an ssd

My programs and apps on another ssd and documents

And used an hdd for downloads and media (things that require a large space)

Now supposed i have a virus in my system. Will it affect all three hardrives or only the first one.

If it only is the first one. Then could i reformat the firat (in the case of a bad virus) and just leave other two alone?

I suspect it'll depend on the virus, but a set-up like that would be useful. I know updating OS's is a pita when it comes to reinstalling all programs/apps but I'm not sure if windows is very good at having them on separate drives. I've heard it can be done but involves doing some registry linking, which sounded rather complicated, I suppose it depends on the OS your using.

I used to do that. Then ssd's got cheaper so I bought a larger one to store OS + programs + games. If you're not a complete tool, you wont get viruses.

Edit: obviously you can partition drives if you're that worried about it.

well i have an ssd as my os drive thats fine and i put my steam library on a 3tb hdd and my anime on a another 3tb hdd but iv been having problems with the drives waking up... i did however find a possible solution to the problem... -> get 160gb ssd , and an app like this http://www.romexsoftware.com/en-us/primo-cache/index.html  its supposed to be better then a hybrid drive witch have a few problems with firmware and slower speeds...

after that split the ssd in to 3 partitions or one for each drive for bypassing the 64gb limited disk size PromoCache has!.... no idea if that's still a problem tho

JohnFlower: I know this is the internet and you can't really see me, but could you learn to be a teensy bit polite. Thats not how you would answer someone when they ask a question. Just food for the thought.

Huh? Do explain what is wrong with that sentence. Perhaps English isn't your first language, or maybe you haven't seen that expression before?

No its fine. By ur reply im confident that ur not a reasonable person for me to hold this convo with. But thanx for ur input. Im glad u took the time to read it. [emoji6]

And for those who dont know what "being a tool" means. Wink. Wink. Nudge. Nudge.

One who lacks the mental capacity to know he is being used. A fool. A cretin. Characterized by low intelligence and/or self-steem.

an offensive comment, mainly aimed towards the male of the species, when one is being particularly nasty, stupid, or facetious.

I wouldn't recommend this, unless you have the need to cache hard drives but when it comes down to it, it is better to put all your software/programs on your SSD.

Why would you want to cache files that do not need fast storage? i.e. animes, videos, music, etc.

Anyways, I don't think Johh was directly saying that to you, but in general.

Oh no its not that i took offense. Its just that terminology shouldnt be used when speaking to someone you dont know. You wouldnt say that to your supervisor. Because of respect. And i think people that you dont know should get that respect, you dont need to pat them on the back but neither should you punchem.

However it can be argued that that was a message to everyone. In which case its still inappropriate to make a negative general statement about anyone who does get a worm trojan virus is a "tool". Or anyone who worries about. Cuz, seriously no one is 100 percent immune (Murphy's Law) and because i am not immune i am a "tool"

Also it could be argued that it his opinion and that he has the right to it. Which is all fine and dandy but that still doesnt save him from the fact that its impolite.

Note i only requested politeness. He is, as always, allowed to do what koby and co will allow him to do. [emoji13]

Don't worry about it, just flame him back like I do at times... ahaha

Oh I'm actually quite a direct person in real life and I respect people who don't beat around the bush, if you think I'm doing something wrong then say so.

Also I would say that to my supervisor or anyone who get viruses in real life (in a joking manner or bluntly). Since if you aren't an idiot then you should be good 99% of the time when it comes to most viruses, malware, worms etc. I just try and educate them about best practices to prevent them.

What most people should be concerned about is zero-day/zero-hour malware, viruses and exploits. As for the others, who gives a fuck as it's more on the user carelessness as I mentioned above.

Why dont you use madvr plus mpc-hc. If you want you can download KCP (kawaii codec pack) it installs it for you with preset settings. Its a really good configuration.
