Before I moved to North Dakota with its hatred of all things military, I was a SFC, too lazy and scared to take on officer's board (and I had just taken on the NCO board, which was brutal ). I get nervous easily and you got marked down for laughing. Plus I didn't want to pass platoon drill and have to deal with twice as many cadets, even though I finished squad drill easily and I had won squad competition.I plan on joining the Navy, if only because my dad was in it and I figure something should be connecting the generations. Well Rotcee brat, as long as you work for a living (you're enlisted, not officer or warrant officer) you're A-OKAY! I live in Pittsburgh, fuckers here HATE the army, but I still walk around IN BOTH THE DARK AND BROAD DAY LIGHT, my ACU's. Forgive me for not knowing, but I know little of ROTC or JROTC so is squad drill and such like Drill Sergeant School or something? That what happens when you're in instructor, you get these damn cadets (like myself) and they make life a Hell.I'll post mine later, but only if I can get one with my best girl. † Emotional Outlet Posted December 29, 2006 Report Share Posted December 29, 2006 Squad drill competition is just a bunch of squad leaders and their respective squad members performing (and giving, in terms of the squad leader) all the commands in squad drill properly. The cadets watching it generally also have the order of the commands memorised, so it's especially painful to screw up, knowing that everyone knows you did (except maybe the parents who don't know what the hell is going on but still watch). Platoon drill competition is the same, except, obviously, with a platoon. Like last year, one of the squad leaders went the wrong direction (gave a column left instead of a column right or something) and people just kind of looked away. I'm not sure if anyone was happy they screwed up, but even I, who was going up against him, felt bad. Supportive bunch, they are.
