computer - eMachines eME528

computers name - Lillith

standard specs can be found here - http://tinyurl.com/btdm3yw

this is my first and only computer, ive had it for a few years and its still running great, i treat it with great care =)

OS - linux ubuntu 12.04 server edition with gnome desktop installed (fully patched)

( Windows is for noobs! linux is for true hackers =P )

- hardware changes -

moniter - completely removed (laptop is now basically a keyboard with a harddrive, i have it hooked up to a 32 inch flat screen tv )

- plans for hardware -

cut a design into chassis like i did to my xbox

remove standard leds and install blue leds, again like i did my xbox (favorite color =3)

at this moment i dont see any other changes i want to make, computer runs great and hasnt failed on me

- software hacks -

gdm - autostart hack (allows me to run any program as the gdm user and without logging in similar to the windows sethc.exe hack) (dont have it enabled for security reasons but was interesting to experiment with)

tty resolution - had to edit a few configs to change resolution from being a square to widescreen compatible (for my hdmi only)

swappiness - (reduced swap usage allowing for faster performance)

tmpmount - mounted the tmp dir (this way tmp files are stored in memmory and erased after use (had to code a program that moniters the files and deletes them after associated programs pid closes, or else theyd stay in memory and pile up slowing everything down) instead of written to disk allowing for a healthier hard disk and better performance)

bare minimal - ive stopped all the unnecessary processes and services from running at boottime allowing for a fast boot (average time id say is more or less 5 seconds)

grub - changed the resolution for grub and the splash, boots to terminal instead of xserver with a image for a background and with blue text instead of white text on black (obviously if theres an image ive recompiled the kernal and added framebuffer support)

elinks - added framebuffer and css layout support so i can browse the web in my terminal and it look almost like it does in firefox =3 (currently working on flash support, although hasnt been something ive spent much time on)

styled - most everything from plymouth to my cursor is custom styled black and blue (i disabled the plymouth splash screen so i can see everything that happens when i boot)

i have many small tweaks ive made to many programs allowing for more functionallity, customization, and mostly for appearance, like styling black and blue or changing the way buttons look etc. ive worked really hard to take care of my computer and improve performance, many hours on google and many hours typing code. any how thats a short list of Lilliths specs

ever seen the matrix? you know when you first see neo and hes asleep at his computer and his computer screen has text going by and then it starts typing something on its own?

well i have a small program that is called instead of the screensaver program that basically locks the screen and instead of blanking the display it displays a fullscreen terminal and starts running programs that display stuff like processes running and current user, hardware information, gets the weather from google, outputs a random rss feed from a list, and types text, like are you there?, the matrix has you etc. and yes by type text i mean it displays the text like someone else is typing it! =)

My rig isn't brand new anymore, but I think it still does perform good. I have the following components running:

Board: Asus P6T-Deluxe

CPU:   i7-2600@ 3,2GHz

RAM:  6x Samsung M378B5673DZ1 2 GB DDR3-1333 RAM

HDD:  2x 300GB WDC WD3000HLFS Velociraptor

           1x ST32000542AS  2TB

           1x ST3000DM001 3TB

GPU:  1x GTX 580

Drive:  LG BH10LS30 Bluray Drive

Case:  Antec 1200

Alltogether that cost me around 2600€ and I am using this computer since the year 2009 (except for the GTX 580 which I bought after selling my EAH4870x2).

I got an Acer Aspire 5741G

OS:  Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

CPU:  Intel® Core i5 CPU M 430 @ 2.27GHz

RAM:  4GB DDR3

GPU:  2GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 320M

HDD:  300GB

Pretty hopeless for gaming.  Used to be good, but after a year and a half of owning it, it started to overheat, when playing games.

Still use it though for internet browsing and other things.

New build is up and running!  Pics coming eventually ^^.

For now here's the key specs:

CPU: i7-4770K

Mobo: Asus Z87-PLUS

Memory: 8GB (2x4GB) Corsair some model line...

Graphics: 7970 (got this for $300 :D)

PSU: Seasonic X650 Gold

Storage: OCZ Vertex 450 128GB+WD Red 1TB

Cooler: Corsair H60

Full build here:

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=17228054

Some parts are wrong, but that's the basic build.  Total I actually spent on everything came out to ~2.5k which was exactly where I was aiming.

I scored 8.1's across the board on WEI, so I think this build is pretty well balanced :).  It's amazing moving to this build after my laptop (http://www.amazon.com/G73SW-A1-Republic-Gamers-17-3-Inch-Gaming/dp/B004I1J864'>Asus G73SW-A1).
