Classic Human Flaw

What is the classic human flaw, and why ???

This is where we will debate it.

I think the most common would be greed, and jealousy.

I disagree with both of those, and our flaw is ignorance.

Human beings are easily the most ignorant people in the entire universe, hands down. Only humans would be perfectly happy while slowly cutting their own wrists, of the eventual destruction of the world.

And i'm gonna get a little touchy here, but seriously... why would that make sense. By harming yourself, how is that helping.

And in a global scale, is the entire worth that 2 foot longer car?

Open your eyes people, there is a perfect balance in which we can live for the day, adn live for the future, if only humans weren't too ignorant to see this.

A person is smart but people are dumb.

Something about money seems to change alot of people and we are a greedy bunch.

For some reason we seem to respond better to destruction then peace and harmony. I have no idea why we as humans act the way we do.

Yah, My parents did an amazing job of raising me. They deffinatly did it right. I was always aloud to make my own deciscions, and when i made a wrong one, they explained the consequences.

I know from babysitting that as a young child, we cannot make our own decisions, and quickly you learn the pattern. One child always wants the second thing I say, idk if its cause all he can remember, but If i was like "do you want icecream or cardboard?" He'd chose cardboard.

But as adults, and young adults, we should be able to make our own decisions andthink them out to the fullest extent. In a matter of seconds you can do this. And you'd think that nothing could go wrong unless by bumb luck.

Ignorance. eh

I'd be the one standing saying Ice Cream! xD I love it.. and what the heck would I do with cardboard? O.o

I dunno.. Classic Human Flaw? Perhaps that we believe we are better then others do to our ethical background, how much money we have, or how much education we have. Humans always seem to nick pick about others and they don't see the things bad about them or what they themselves do wrong.

So yeah I guess that could be called ignorance, eh?

What do you mean by classic? Fundamental? Highest quality? Typical? Universal across space and time?

I think it's ridiculous to spend so much time hating humans, how we're all so terrible, how we're all doomed, blah blah blah. I think I'm going to explode if I see another freakin' bulletin on Myspace about how bad humans are. It's not because I'm a philanthropist, but holy crap, at least I try to keep my misanthropy to myself. If it was targeted at one type of person, at a specific person (as it usually is in my case), it wouldn't be so bothersome.

We're all flawed, and if there's any one flaw I can't stand and see most of, is unwarranted superiority. "I'm like this, and not many people are, so that sets me aside from the human race." "I'm so self-sacrificing because I care about people. You don't see other people doing that." "I'm not stuck up [sic] like the rest of you people."

"Nice" people bother me so much. >:(

You're close, but the classic and only human flaw is feeling. By that, I mean that humans can feel and react to that feeling.

Think about enything anyone has ever done.

It was all because they either liked or hated something and wanted it to change. Humans everywhere are free to feel and choose how to react on that feeling. Do dogs stop eating the dog food because it wasn't made im America? No, they eat it anyway. Do some people not eat a certain food because it came from somewhere foreign to them? Hell yeah they do. Either they deny it completely or look at it and say no.

This power of feeling and choice is a great gift but a terrible curse. Nobody would cut their wrists if they didn't have feelings of depression and sorrow. See?

Ambition. It does vary from person to person on a sliding scale. If somebody has so much ambition to become "the best" and rise to the top they will not hesitate to ruin other people's lives. If it wasn't for ambition Africa would be OK. Thing is though, without ambition, we are nobody. Just like worker ants.

I think the Planet of the Apes sums the Human Race up so well:

Beware the beast man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport or lust or greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home and yours. Shun him; drive him back into his jungle lair, for he is the harbinger of death.

Africa would be alright now, but Africa had choices to make. I agree without ambition we wouldn't be hardly nothing, just lazy humans. Too much ambition will hurt others around you -- by doing anything to get to the top is what the classic human flaw is.

  • 4 years later...

I'd say people being narrow minded enough that it turns to unjust action and intolorance is what I belive to be the major flaw in humanity. Let's not forget what happens when narrow-mindedness gets taken to far.

"Ah, you don't belive what I belive in or do the things I do! Becasue of that, you're bad or less than human!", says/thinks a person. Then they start going on a "crusade" of a killing spree. This has been happening since . . . well forever because of religion, race, sexuality, gender, personality, ect...

. . . It makes me just think to myself, "Seriously, what the hell is wrong with these kinds of people?!"

The classic human flaw? Ego.

Too many chiefs, not enough Indians, as the old saying goes. Our flaw is that everyone thinks that they are correct, when in fact, there is no "right way" to do anything.

Definitely! Too much of an ego almost always clouds open minded thinking and creativite thought.

(To refer to my signature with a quote from Bruce Lee) When you open yourself up and don't keep the mindset "this is the way" and not have a way, you get to keep an open mind and keep learning. I've learned there is no ultimate right way, but many. I wish more people would understand that. What do you think?

I would probably say fear. It seems to me that all the worst things people do, and all the good that people don't do, are motivated out of fear. We kill for fear of death and we refuse to share for fear of want. Fear of lack, loss, death, Jews, Muslims, anything really.
