KimTec
The saddest anime I ever watched was Rumbling Hearts, don't think that anything else can come close to this.

Koby
ef ~ a tale of memories and Tokyo Magnitude 8.0Both were really emotional and heart wrenching stories. Both of them made it into my top 5 favorite Anime list out of over 500 series I have seen, and that's saying something.I've heard a lot of people talk about how sad Clannad is or how much of a tear jerker it is.. but I haven't seen it yet to be able to comment on it. roankun
I haven't finished Clannad afterstory, but I do hear it's more of a tearjerker than ef.Recently, I guess I've cried when I rewatched Angel Beats (when they show how Otonashi died) and in Lotte no Omocha ep 4, when Lotte and her mom just won't meet. I know it's a loli comedy anime, but, I guess I'm just really touchy when it ocmes to family.
Wake
There have been a few like Clannad After Story, Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 and 5 Centimeters per Second... Angel Beats made me teary but I didn't cry... I know there's a couple others but I can't remember what they were. To answer you question though, I did feel better after I cried during these shows. You will laugh, become sad, cry & at last again be relieved after you finish clannad after story. Specially when ushio plays in a mastered field and lost the robot his father recently bought her. This part will surely make you cry if you are a human.
italiankd
Clannad After Story made me cry, and the first part of Clannad brought me close to tears once or twice. and i'd definitely agree with you about the "cleansing" feeling. a good cry is not a bad thing every once and a while. GuyUWishUWere
The ending of Soul Eater (Not of sorrow, rage)The Villain if killed with a punch full of "hope". I wish this was a joke.Up till that point I liked the series as a comedy. But that was unforgivable.FMA almost got me for reasons already mentioned by others.
