What Came First?

i propose this - eggs require warmth to grow. so, there couldn't have been an egg in the beginning unless it was heated by something.

and the something couldn't have been a chicken since we are assuming that eggs came first. so if the something that hatched it looked at it when it hatched, it would think "hey! that don't look like Martha at all!" and eat it.

Q.E.D. the chicken came first.

But birds are also millions of years old.. so in fact, there could well have been chickens (or thereof) during or before the age of dinosaurs..
Well, chickens are small; as compared to these huge behemoths that we would all cower from in they were still around. To bigger animals, these small chickens would be like, flies to us humans. [Actually, we go through plenty of chickens now that I think about it....]

Imho, the Chicken came first; like Iki said, it requires warmth (because it would be safe to say that it'd die inside the egg if it were in a frozen environment) and probably some place safe to even consider being "hatchable."

The eggs came first, they were the products of steamy primordial soup sex that took place between the white "headed" amoeba variant known for it's tough shell like feature and the ever attractive fungus seductivus who were quite popular among the white heads, their constant insemination brought about the first prototype egg which hatched into something we would barely recognize, but natural selection has since develped it into what we know as the modern day chicken.
