Nero D. Ace
i saw this movie a few days ago and it is BLOODY AWESOME!!!now, the ending was kind of debatable so for those who have seen it, lets have a discussion ...did that top stop or not? Slayer
though I first thought that it was just about to, I later realized that that the totem was not his to begin with. so can it even be trusted to tell the truth regarding whether it was all just a dream? Watching it a second time I decided that the movie was vague enough for the viewer to decide whatever they wanted and so I choose the happy ending. Nero D. Ace
the totem was originally his wife's idea ... but the point of it is that if the guy knows about it, he can replicate it in the dream. the question that remains is that when saito made that call, was he really just pulling cobb into a dream where he could be with his family?but, i agree. the film is very debatable and i also chose the happy ending. besides, near the absolute end of it, you could hear the top making a weird noise that it makes before falling down, so each to his own, eh? †poetictragedy
I kept waiting and waiting for the top to tip over, and I was kind of sad that it didn't. I decided that if the top was meant to fall, they would have shown it. Therefore, I chose the sad ending. But I also think it's the better ending. I like movies that have that little unexpected twist at the end. Plus, not every story has a happy ending.
kathyv
Inception is completely stunning movie I like story of this movie , Christopher Nolan is genius director.
DoctorDazza
Nolan said that the top should have fallen down, he just wanted to make some speculation on the subject.
Mr_Owl
he was creating an ambiguous ending. it's all up to the viewer. it can almost be a new glass half empty or half full test.
Trend
He wears a ring in the dream and not in reality, so eventually the top would have fallen at the end because he wasn't wearing his ring then.
Koby
I really enjoyed this movie greatly. As for the top dropping or not, that is debatable and it seems they left it that way so you can let your imagination flow and choose your own ending in a way. I'll definitely be buying this on Blu-ray sometime down the road when I can afford it.
Slayer
you should all watch The Prestige if you haven't already. It's got the same structure as Inception and all, but it is still pretty enjoyable. similar debatable ending as well. back on Inception, I also wondered if the whole thing itself was a dream. it's kinda hard to take anything the movie gives you seriously because it might as well have been a dream. I mean, we don't really know that Cobb was right and his wife wasn't.
Nero D. Ace
in all of Hollywood, Christopher Nolan is the only man who hasn't made a film that i have not liked or had to watch a MINIMUM of two times to get the gist of what the hell happened.Take Memento, for example. the backward story telling - AMAZING!Prestige, combining theatricality with magic and all those twists along the way.and Dark Knight, where in my opinion, he created a better Joker than Jack Nicholson. safety
im kinda thinking it did as it wobbled a little as the screen went black but then again it was probably the director's intention to make the ending ambiguous
woojie3000
The whole reason for the top at the end was to spark debates over it, My answer, who knows.

silver_rain_121
It had to. The children hadn't aged in the whole time he was gone! It was all a dream...
Koby
It had to. The children hadn't aged in the whole time he was gone! It was all a dream...Your logic is wrong. The dream world can go a life time and be only a couple days or something in the real world. Like originally, his wife and him spent 50 years in the dream but came out and it had only been like a weekend or something. I can't remember the exact times, but you understand the dream world is much faster than reality.

After his wife died and he fled the country he was supposedly separated from his children for a long time (years perhaps? I don't remember exactly how long it said he had been gone). All we can see in some flashbacks is his indecision to see his children one last time before he flees. When he sees them again they are the "same" children as they were in all those flashbacks. NTK
I read on IMDB that Nolan intended that the ending is a part of reality. And it really started to wobble before the end.
