Kametsu Forums to be Rebranded August 31, 2014

Because I've been thinking of this for a while and I've decided to finally go through with it. At the end of August this change will take place. Kametsu Forums will be rebranded as simply Kametsu (or Kametsu Community) and the address will change to simply "kametsu.com". Think of ".com" being an appreviation of "community" if you wish.

Why? The main site doesn't have much use (literally went almost 18 months without any updates), and it's all about brand recognition. It makes sense to have the focus of the place on the main domain; not on a sub-domain of it. The main site as it currently is will be moved to something like "kametsu.com/blog" or "blog.kametsu.com" or whatever I end up doing. More than likely it'd simply vanish until we get new reviewers and news posters (hint hint, if you'd like to post reviews or keep up-to-date with news on the blog, put in an application with me!).

The current address "forums.kametsu.com" will redirect back to the main domain when this change happens and the redirect will likely be in effect for years to come just so everyone will be able to realize the change. So be sure to update your bookmarks and whatnot.

wait does that mean this forum will cease to exist?

No. Simply that the address to the forum will change from http://forums.kametsu.com to just http://kametsu.com

We're just removing the "forums." from the address and dropping the word "forum" from the title/banners/etc.

The forum as a whole will not change or lose anything. It will look and operate the same.

Hmm, this question might be off-topic, but why did you change the Facebook group from closed to secret?

Also, why am not a member anymore (of the FB group)? I had to request to join again lol ^^'.

Because that group was an unofficial FB group created by one of the retired Super Mods which serves absolutely no purpose other than to divide attention away from the real FB page for Kametsu. Our official Facebook page is: http://facebook.com/Kametsu

and apparently to get rid of a group you have to manually delete each user one by one then delete yourself when you're done. -_- It's a pain in the ass.

I like the idea of the forums being located at kametsu.com and then the blog (as sparsely posted on as it is) being at blog.kametsu.com. Another forum I'm apart of actually has their "blog page" or whatever you wanna call it, located at *site name*.com/frontpage

Personally, I wasn't a fan of the "name" forums.kametsu but always found myself referring to this site as Kametsu forums instead...

Edit: But I do like just Kametsu. Its punchy.

Haha this may confuse some as the links go to different websites...(I assume that wasnt the idea??) xD

-_- Read where I said this isn't going to take effect till the end of August. Obviously the main domain would still point to the blog at this time.

Also just because the forums was on the subdomain; doesn't mean it was referred to as Forums Kametsu. It had always been Kametsu Forums. =p

I did see when the change was taking place... I just wouldnt have made what you typed (http://forums.kametsu.com and  http://kametsu.com) hyperlinks, thats all :).

Hence why I used the word 'name' in inverted commas and typed it as it appears in the url as opposed to referring to it as Forums Kametsu like you mentioned. Normally people get a webistes name by the url, or vice versa (not always the case though).

P.s Dont worry if dont understand what Im saying, my explaining skills are terrible.

So your ditching the site all together and just keeping the forum? or the site will get a new URL?

This should answer your question...

That didnt answer my question, that tells me about the forum and whats happening to it, not the site itself thats already at kametsu.com.

Ill reword the question so even a dummy can get what Im asking.

Go to the site http://kametsu.com and you will notice its a different Kametsu site thats already there. If the forum is getting moved to that URL, whats going to happen to the site thats already at that URL now? Is it going to be moved as well to a different URL like the forum, or is it going to just be ditched and only the forum will remain?

Thats what I was asking.

How about this: Assuming that when Koby says "the main site", he is referring to  http://kametsu.com

If the old address will redirect to the new site how will we know when the cutover happened?

Can we modify the banner or something for a couple weeks to say "Change yo bookmarks now!!!" or something?

Wouldn't this be unnecessary as its been stated it's happening at the end of August?

At the end of August this change will take place.

Because although the current address will load the community at it's new destination; any link you click within would therefore have the new location.
