Harry-Potter
You should know that Microsoft has finally given up on its most successful product and announced that it won’t support Windows XP any more. In other words, millions of computers all over the world are now at risk from security threats, but the software giant failed to persuade people to switch to another operating system. According to the latest statistics, almost 25% of the world’s machines still run XP. Of course, it has been a pretty long run. Windows XP was released in the mid-2001 and its development was started in the late 1990s. Its prototype code was codenamed “Neptune” and built on the Windows NT kernel, intended for consumers. In the meantime, an updated version of Windows 2000 was also initially planned for the business market. In the early 2000, both of these projects were shelved in favor of a single operating system nickenamed “Whistler”, which could be used in both business and consumer environments. The new OS introduced a considerably redesigned graphical user interface and became the first version of Windows which used product activation in an effort to reduce software piracy. Despite this feature, XP was pirated to oblivion, so you can see how that worked out.Windows XP proved to be extremely popular among users: by January 2006, more than 400 million copies were in use. XP remained the most widely used OS until August 2012, when Windows 7 overtook it.The much-extended deadline fell on the same day as Patch Tuesday, giving Microsoft a chance to release updates for the platform. But after the April, 8 no more updates for machines without custom support are released. The exceptions are the UK government, which has paid Microsoft £5.5 million to keep public sector entities covered, and the Dutch government. For everyone else it will be a great time to target machines running on Windows XP, because there is no protection short of virus checkers anymore.
JimDaddy
I use Windows 8 now (with some modifications) and really like it. Honestly, after I got my old explorer back and my start menu most everything is superior. Start up and shut down time being the most obvious. There are still some things I'm not quite a fan of, but pros outweighed the cons by a longshot. All the other computer in my life use 7 minus one. I have and ancient Pentium 4 Dell that still uses xp, but no one in the house even uses it.
Ranma-kun
I switched to Windows 7 around last December when I heard the deadline was looming. RIP Windows XP I used you for 12 years and you served me well.

Nintendon't
Vista was terrible I switched back after a short time. I never understood all the hate for Vista back then. It ran faster than XP for me and was much less prone to getting viruses. Not to mention it had a really slick interface. Windows 7 is the definite master race OS though. Hopefully Windows 9 can get the torch back. Edited April 12, 2014 by Nintendon't
CNF1
I know my school's computers (as well as one of my grandpa's computers) mostly use XP. My grandpa is disabling internet use on his XP tho, so it's less prone to attacks I guess (his words not mine). Although I really hope my school upgrades theres... Ecio
A place I worked at previously was still using Win XP - I left in Jan, and a week before leaving, they upgraded their machines... to Windows 2003. Come to think about it... 2003 was based off XP. Edited April 13, 2014 by Ecio
slick1109
I switched to 7 in December when I custom built my new desktop. Right now I am refurbishing some old PC's and upgrading them from XP to 7 to sell. I feel that Every OTHER Microsoft OS is worth using. (with the exception of 95 - 98) Example .......... -DOS (doesnt count as windows obviously) started it all - Windows 3.0/3.1 barely anyone even knew about it -Windows 95 made computers a household item -Win 98 another nice one and the only exception to the rule -Win 2000/ME was a bust for Home Users -XP was the longest running OS of all time and the most popular - Vista was Crap - 7 improved vista and turned it into a solid OS - 8 doesnt even know what it is since it keeps trying to change - 9 is on track to be the next good one. Guest
I stopped using windows nt when i learned about ubuntu 4.10 back in 2004. Its fast virus and keylogger free os that is easy to use. I still use windows xp or win7 in a vm so i can test out my lua/autoit scripts. D2bs runs on windows but i dont use it for anything else and if i get a virus i can delete the iso and drop in a copy of the vmos.

Ecio
Exactly, don't be scared. Use it, it's just support. I've never really use support for anything. I think now you're aware, you're getting scared. There's always that dodgey guy down the road that could always help if need be.
CardGames
I don't want to take the risk of being infected though.
lemmingllama
I don't want to take the risk of being infected though. As long as you have a decent virus scanner and firewall, then the odds of being infected are about the same as before they made the change. Besides, using common sense will save you from almost all of those nasty things.
