Big Adventure Recommendation?

I highly recommend gurrren lagaan and eureka 7 because they have big adventures and character growth. It is a mecha anime though, so not too sure if you are into that genre but either way gurren lagaan and eureka 7 have won several anime awards for being one of the best anime series to come out during there time.
