STARBOUND

Okay, so one of the devs from Terraria broke away to make his own thing and I

am

so

excite.

And I don't excite easily over new games because apparently nobody wants to cater to my specific tastes.

It's still deep in development so there's no release date at the moment, but there's a lot of little snippets of what they've done to whet your appetite. And those little snippets are amazing. It's similar to Terraria in the way Terraria is similar to Minecraft. There's the blocky and sandbox aspect, the random worlds aspect, but Starbound takes it further by having an infinite number of procedurally generated planets, each unique in terrain, weather, gravity, difficulty, flora and fauna, and even the items!

It addresses the issue I have with Terraria in that it's not exactly endless--once you kill all the bosses, you're left with... nothing. Just the same enemies, the same biomes, the same spread of corruption and hallow until they can't spread any more. My bestie and I have played a lot of Terraria in the past few weeks (I forced him to get it because I'm bossy) and then we beat the game fifty different ways and back. The only thing we have left is creating massive pixel art, which, honestly, doesn't appeal to me. I just want to play the game forever. That is why I play the Sims.

I also don't really care for Minecraft because reasons. I think I'm too stupid to enjoy it??

Anyway.

I've known of this project for a number of months. And I'm just waiting to see how they handle the world selection process. I believe I also read somewhere a long way back that you should also be able to enter codes to goto the same procedurally generated world a friend has found via a seed code.

If that does make it into the final game there should be some rather amusing world swapping among friends whenever somebody finds something either very amusing or someplace with some crazy materials.

That sounds amazing and maybe a bit of a given? Like I would hope there was never any question whether they would include that, but I won't be hurt if they don't, haha.

And yeah, I know it's been in the works for a while (based on the number and regularity of complaints from people about the devs not giving them enough previews or a release date), but it hadn't yet been posted on the forum, haha. Knowing about it has severely dampened my interest in Terraria, though, because I keep thinking, "I could be in space right now. I could be in space talking to bird people and going to different planets instead of walking back and forth on the same world forever."

So the game is still trucking along in development, to the point they're now working on a beta timeline.

Hey, so they totally have screens of the different starter ships!!

 

Human | Floran | Avian | Hylotl | Apex | Glitch

 

I'm totes gonna be a Floran, guys, I'm gonna be so kawaii. Big ol' flower on my head. (◡‿◡✿)*:･ﾟ✧ The Glitch ship looks pretty cool, though, I like the steampunky design of it. And that chair is way sweet, like seriously.

 

Still no beta date and the roadmap hasn't been updated since they posted it (I think), but it's still going. o3o

I am pretty keen for Starbound, I have mine pre-ordered and waiting for the beat. I also like watching the amount of money they make via pre-orders and seeing what they add to the game because of it, such as pets and fossils.

 

On another note have you heard that there will most likely be an update for terraria!! Me and my brother have been looking into it and on the homepage of terraria it hints at future updates

Yeah, I saw that Redigit is supposed to be returning to developing Terraria now that his kid is older. I don't know if I'll be able to be sucked back into the game, I've gotten so bored of it, but it's cool news nonetheless. o3o

I love terraria, it has it's times where it can be boring but when I stop playing for a few months I get right back into it. I have a feeling starbound will be similar in that regard.
