Sony Admits PlayStation Move Has Been A Failure

Sony UK VP and MD Fergal Gara recently spoke to the official PlayStation magazine about Sony’s Wii Remote clone, the PlayStation Move. Gara admitted that Sony hadn’t done a good enough job supporting the hardware with quality titles, and suggested that the PlayStation Move hardware is best relegated to the causal market.

“What I’m thinking is that it’s better suited towards the casual market, certainly, but we also are pretty clear that we could have done a better job on the titles we’ve had and we’ve brought to market for the PlayStation Move. As you’ve said, great tech, probably not so great applications so far. So there’s a job for us to do on the strength of games, and having seen what’s forthcoming gives me great hope that we can do a better job with Move as we look forward. So we’re certainly not forgetting about it.”

I really haven't had a chance to try out the Move yet, but I'm not really surprised about this news. Sony really doesn't do much in the way of supporting their peripherals. The GunCons never really got much in the way of exciting titles either. I thought you could use the Move for some of the fps games, like Gears of War 3. I'm kind of surprised people aren't using it for that. I think I'd rather play a shooter with a gun and have awkward movement, then with a controller and have crappy aim.

It has loads of advertising also. I don't really care for the Kinect. The original and best, in my opinion, is the Wii's Motion Control.

Loads of advertising? I hardly saw any advertising for the Kinect itself, only the games, which were absolute rubbish.

Of coourse one thing is it is overpriced has crap games

Perhaps it is overpriced to make it seem more desirable? Also, things like cosnoles are always expensive the first time released. Look at the 3DS.

Seems to me there's a huge amount of advertising in New Zealand compared to other games, dunno what it's like in other countries. (by contrast, Nintendo's advertising, even when the Wii was popular, was abysmal and poorly managed here)

Whilst the Move specific games generally turn out to be somewhat tedious, surely those titles with enhanced Move options (Like RE5) are worth having an alternative control scheme? RE4 on the Wii was made great by that option and whilst i've not tried a Move surely it can't be all bad?

I don't really care much for motion gaming to begin with. If I wanted to go out and play baseball, I would. I wouldn't turn on the kinect or the Wii and play it on a television.

The Move was a bad idea in the first place. PlayStation has never been about motion gaming, so it was an odd addition to their collection.

Nintendo was never about Motion gaming before the Wii? Every company has to try something to shake things up, and if it actually did add an extra dynamic it wouldn't have mattered it was similar to the Wii. It's just most dev's have ignored it.
