How did you get into gaming?

This has been bothering me for a while. I feel like I'm the only one who grew up with video games, that I'm the only one whose earliest memory was of video games. :(

So. How did you become a gamer? How far back do your gaming roots hail? How old were you when you first sat and stared at a screen for hours?

Like I said, I was pretty much born with a controller in my hand, as was my little brother. It's probably because of my father, because we had some old-ass systems from the seventies that I could never figure out what they were when I was looking through our stuff when I was younger. The earliest system I personally dealt with was the NES, followed by the SNES. (Oh, the Game Genie. Good times.)

I didn't get into computer gaming until my dad introduced me to ROMs (we played Clue!) when we were still living in El Centro when I was five, six, or seven, and while I watched my dad play computer games like Doom and such, I never played games on the computer until the first Sims (it was MAGICAL, I tell you, MAGICAL).

If it weren't for my dad, I wouldn't be the gamer I am now. Would have never known a damn thing about games first of all, never would've have known about ROMs and emulators, and I never would have been introduced to the Internet. I owe my lack of a life to my father. ;D

And now you know why I am not an active person. :P Gaming is my life.

I never played video games till I was about 10, and started getting into trouble... Like serious trouble

So my phsychiatrist said me and my dad should have a bonding thing that we could do together. And she suggested video games

So we baught and n64 and played super smash bros together

Now we both play computer games together like no other. Because hes the pres of his company, when theres noo work to do, me adn him used to play Guild Wars together

Than other games like Civilizations, and uh Dungeon Seige, Titan Quest, Neverwinter Nights... All the way to we played Dark Messiah... which he didnt like

So i still get in trouble, but not as much... and as a result of video games, me and my dad are realyl close :D

Cute story right??

I don't think I've played a lot of video games with my family. It was, and is, generally an antisocial, independent thing. My dad and brother play games together sometimes, usually sports or fighting, and I'll occasionally play a fighting or party game with one of them or with some friends, but the kinds of games I like tend not to support multiplayer.

And I don't like playing with other people.

I got a NES when I was 3 I believe.. Thats like one of the first toy's or game whatever you wish to call it that I actually remember having. I remember shooting those ducks on that Mario duo game. And jumping on odd looking Owls heads. xD

Omg, I know that game!!! It was so FUN!!! Gosh, I miss those good days lol

Same here, EO! I pretty much gotten into video games when I was like really young probably 3 or 4 actually. I was so addictive to video games that I everytime I would come home I would turn on my NES... That was my first console.. I can actually remember right now when my Mom brought it for me... It was during Christmas and I was SOOOOO EXCITED!!! I kept telling my mom "HURRY UP!!!!" Lol I was so young, man I REALLY miss my childhood!

Gaming, a secret life? A "different" life? NO WAI. What, are you afraid of tarnishing your "rep" as an uber cool d00d? I don't see why anyone would consider gaming a secret life unless they had insanely strict parents.

I always whip out my DS when I'm bored. If the people around here don't recognise me as a gamer, then they're bloody blind. I don't have an issue making it known that I'd rather play a video game than actually talk to people.

Gore, blood, action, and brilliant game play has always excited me. I have to say I got into gaming when I was about 7. Mortal kombat was my favorite game for the Super Nintendo at the time, then the Playstation came out and Resident Evil became my bedtime story and babysitter. Now that I'm 17 and 10 years of gaming has passed by quickly, I can't seem to put down the damned controller. I think I may have an addiction... :-[

I got a NES when I was 3. My mom and I lived with my grandma and there was nothing else to do so I played it a lot and eventually became a hardcore gamer. I was 8 years old beating people in X-Men Vs. Street Fighter at the arcade. You know those teens and adults wanted to beat me up. lol. I love games so much that I want to become a video game designer, and I'm working towards that goal. That's why I mess with MUGEN so much. Ah, almost 16 years of gaming.

I don't know. I was too young to remember why. I was about 2 or 3 years old when I began playing video games. Things like Mario, Fester's Quest, Sonic, Zelda. Now okay some of those aren't *that* old yet, but some are! I played games like those, and then fighting games and Tomb Raider, and Road Rash <333. Discovered FFVII a while after it was released here.

We had all the old systems, kinda. NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, N64, then the Gameboy, Gameboy Color, etc etc. I don't know why we had video games because my parents didn't play them. Just my older brother and I, and he's only like 21 months older.

Well, I almost too was born with a controller in my hand because of my big brother

The first games that I ever played were something like the early Lemmings, Grand Theft Auto I and II, Aladdin, Jazz Jackrabbit, Monster Bash/Dash, some winter sports game, a winter and summer olympics game and some weird racing game where the characters were some jungle people

then when we got NES, I remember how much I enjoyed shooting those ducks, playing Super Marios and Nemo, and some ninja game and the others, I loved playing pool with NES

I also always watced my brother and dad playing Tomb Raiders and Doom

my brother usually just said that I can't play 'cause I'm a girl, but nowadays I play more than him and I am addicted

I guess that just because my brother always plays, I got to that same way too, maybe it started from Heros of Might and Magic II i guess or then when my brother bought the PlayStation, or the game magazines we always bought, just a great thanks to my brother, I grew up with games
