Good Anime? Gintama?

Hey Guys,

I just recently started coming back into Anime, and i'm trying to build a pretty good collection of good Anime to watch.

I prefer Shonen over anything, but I also like Comedy and Sci-Fi. Anything that ties in with Shonen i'm pretty OK with!

I heard Gintama was a good one, but at the same time the review I read said something about appealing to fan girls, which made me a bit iffy thinking it had some sort of weird Yaoi aspect to it.

I come from watching what I guess you could call mainstream anime, which is stuff like Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, Bleach, One Piece, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, as well as anything else that would have appeared back on Toonami or Adult Swim years ago.

I'm also pretty fond of Tenchi Muyo despite it's tie with romance, so if there's something similar to Tenchi Muyo I wouldn't be opposed to it.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

For Shounen try:

  1. Hunter x Hunter (currently being remade in Japan, but the original had 62 episodes + like 30 episodes of OVA)
  2. Yuyu Hakusho (112 episodes)
  3. Soul Eater (51 episodes but episodes 38-End are anime-original and let the show down)
  4. Fairy Tail (112 episodes and still on-going)
  5. D.Gray-man (103 episodes, caught up to manga so they ended it without an ending, hope they come back to it someday)

Oh wow, thank you for the quick response! I've seen YuYu Hakusho (which is one i'd like to rewatch, so thank you for the reminder) but the rest I haven't seen, so i'll definitely give them a shot.

I've heard about Soul Eater and D.Gray-man, but not the other two. Fairy Tale looks interesting; the artist behind One Piece must have worked on this.

I would recommend picking up Gintama, but I have to mention it is not really in the same shounen vein as the other shows you mentioned. While there are some story arcs that are much more action-oriented, it generally revolves around random comedic elements and it is kind of an acquired taste I guess. The show does have some appeal in its character models for fan girls, but nothing that would suggest it is a yaoi title.

For a shounen title I would strongly second Hunter x Hunter and Hitman Reborn.
