Like the title say how popular is Anime in your country. If it's I unpopular then why is it so unpopular?

I live in India where Anime is really very unpopular. I mean if people see you watching Anime they'd think that you're extremely Immature and you need to grow up. I've never seen any Anime DVD in any of the shops over here nor any of the famous anime movies. Only once did I saw an Anime DVD in shop that was Ponyo and that too it had somethiong to do with Disney. Only once or twice did I hear about Anime film festival over here. I've met people who actually hate Anime. So how popular is Anime in your country?

It's sort of popular but most never admit that they watch or know it.

Thankfully, in Glasgow a lot of places sell anime movies/series.

I've even been to anime meet ups and theres a lot of us of all ages.

Decent number of cosplayers (including me) showing their support.

YAY, GLASGOW.

Well.. I've never seen a real cosplayer in my life.

If someone does go on any Anime convention wearing a cosplay He's surely be ridiculed or laughed upon.

the High school I go to has like an anime class or something like that. Or at least that's what I've heard from others. Still theirs plenty of people in my school who like anime and their not labeled as weird or picked on for it, so yeah, its pretty much were I live.

Where I live anime isn't that important, the only anime I'm sure most people wattch is DBZ and still they call it a cartoon, what a bunch of nubs.

At the school I go to there are only about 7-10 of us who know about it and I introduced most of them to it, when ever I speak of anime most of these nubs say what cartoon is that and your too old to watch that. And I kept telling them that it ain't for kids, so I gave them Hellsing and told them that would they let their younger siblings watch it and their expression changed. But in the end they called it a cartoon.

In my opinion most of these guys luck the ability to understand anime and hats why they brush it off, DBZ should not count cause I mean who doesn't know about it.

Well the situation is nearly same over here. Out of all of my friends theres only 1 friend who really liked anime. But even he never watches Subtitled Animes. Other people either think I'm immature or make fun of me, like my other friends and relatives. Some people ask me "Aren't you too old to watch cartoon?". Well I never cared what other people say. Anime are lot better than crap shows they show on the telly.

I'd Say its bout a 7 in my country (Australia). Though most still dont understand the diffrence between cartoons and animes and believe they are for kids. I am currently breaking my brothers in anime plus all my mates. Still most people I know have at least seen one anime

I say it's a 7 in my school, I mean the other day I saw in the college "newspaper" that there is a Anime watching club or something and I have at least two friends who watch anime regularly.

EDIT: I say that but I've voted 6, probably because outside of my school less people know what is Anime

I'd say about 7. Most people in my area at least know what Anime is. It's relatively popular here, at least compared to a lot of other places I've been. Unfortunately there isn't much in terms of anime related shops, or clubs in my town. The only cosplayers I've ever seen were when I went to an anime convention in China.

I choose the #1 category 'cause here in India, Anime is considered an animated shit and is addressed a mere cartoon. Anime watchers are considered lower and those godforsaken-facebook's asslickers are considered cool who do nothing but waste their time chatting around with themselves. It's not like I waste my time for justification because, well, I don't care. Also, I haven't seen any retail stores for anime or manga of any sort, here. I buy my stuff off Amazon.

I would have to say 7. My local T.V. stations don't play it any more but the people that I talk to that know about anime are far and few between. Its like being treated as if it's an underground cult. But the age range varys. I live in Canada.

Bionix for YTV :dhh:

Too bad it ended early 2010. I think you hit the nail right on the head. Watching anime is something (including myself) that people keep in the closet and there are very little people to talk about it unless you're lucky with a good group of mixed friends (boy/girl and ethnicity). Anime is still looked at mostly as inmature and weird, especially if you're not oriental.

I gave a 4, 7 might be pushing it but it all matters on your own surroundings

I think Canada has the potential of having anime as one of the most popular things because of our diversity but in my generation most of us are closet anime fans. 3-5 years younger than me might talk anime regularly but for me its only seldom

Same here bro, those bloody moochers pretend like they don't like anime but when I gave them High School Of The dead, there reaction was almost like it was there first time watching porn or something like that

Situation is bad here, people don't even want to see HOTD even if I tell them about the "bullet dodging boobs" and fan service in it.

This means that you havent met the right people yet. It takes a certain kind of person to enjoy anime, or an immature one

Since you said that, I decided to check out if there is any Anime group on FB near my place I did find one but only person in that group is the group creator himself. There might be a handful of people in my whole country who know what anime is and lesser who really like to watch Anime and love Anime. The only person I know of who likes anime is a close friend of mine. He got interested only because I forced him to watch it. But he too seems to be losing interest in it now.:(

I found this while surfing the net.
