Okay, let's think about this for a second ...

Sephiroth - The Man in the Black Cape, The Legendary SOLDIER, the Destroyer of Worlds, The Son of JENOVA ... and all that crap.

For all his hype, let's go over his accomplishments ...

Our subject Sephiroth used to be a quiet chap, happily eating dumb-apples with his (possibly homo) chums - Angeal and Genesis. But one day, they both disappeared and poor Sephi was left all alone in the whole wide world ...

It was shortly afterwards in the village of Nibelheim that our subject ... snapped so as to say. He embarked on an epic plan to take over the world, completely and utterly annihilating his SOLDIER partner, Zack in the process. His plan would have worked but then he got stabbed by a puny blonde kid who wasn't even a SOLDIER and ended up having to sleep for a few years.

Fast-forward a few years and he attempts to take over the planet again. In his long spree of running from place to place, he managed to kill ONE of the hero party members - a flower girl. Yeahhh, real brave, Sephi.

Our subject then gained a tonne of power, summoned Meteor blah blah blah but his plans ended up being foiled by the SAME SCRAWNY LITTLE BLONDE KID AS BEFORE!

Ah well, third time's the charm as most people say and so Sephi slept again, leaving his younger brothers to do the fighting for him for a while. Near the end of the movie, Sephi decided to make his dramatic "look at my black wings!" entrance and FINALLY take over the planet ...

except ...

yeah, you guessed it - he got beaten by the SAME SCRAWNY LITTLE BLONDE KID AS BEFORE!

Now, this might just be my imagination but if a guy keeps losing to the same guy over and over, a guy, mind you who's had no special training in SOLDIER whatsoever and who even failed the exam to enter it and just used a giant frigging kitchen knife to finish him off; then the former really isn't that tough an opponent.

Iki, I think we have found something we completely agree on!! ^_^

Look, I have said this many times, and Koby has said this many times, I believe. Sephiroth is only considered "amazing" because FF7 was, for some strange inconceivable reason that I cannot comprehend, a widely succesful game. I gauruntee, if FF7 wasn't that succesful, Sephiroth wouldn't be shit.

I always thought that Sephiroth was just a glorified Momma's boy. His fight is one of the easiest boss battles in the game. Jenova Synthesis is WAAAYYYYYY harder than he was, and she wasn't even that hard!! I think it's absolutely RIDICULOUS that he was given such a long sword. Honestly, it made me like him even less, because it is almost impossible to swing a sword that is longer than you that fast and with that much power.

I think Sephiroth is a ridiculous and poor excuse for a villian, probably my least favorite in the series.

I only played FF7 when I was about fourteen/fifteen, and I wasn't as exposed to great literature as I am now. Simply to say the least, I was blown away by the game. And by Sephiroth in particular. He is enigmatic, he literally scares your party members. I had no idea what the fuck he was doing, but I was driven to stop him anyway.

However, is he over-rated in todays world? Yes. There are much better villains today, but back when FF7 first came out, he was one of the most striking characters in video-games.

And I'll admit it. I cried when Aeris died.

Well, you know . . . I've always been a big fan of Sephiroth. And it's not because Final Fantasy 7 is in fact my favorite game in the Final Fantasy series nor because he's overrated. In fact, Sephiroth is actually one of the FEW overrated characters I actually like. But yet again, he prefers to go alone on practically everything. He's think he's the best at what he does ((even IF he loses to Cloud)). And he's a bad guy. Three simple reasons why I like him. Not to mention I hardly EVER root for the good guys. It's usually the neutral guys or else the bad guys 85% - 90% of the time.

I'm just weird that way I guess. But yeah, Sephiroth is indeed rather overrated. But I still love him.

OMG!! I AGREE! I NEVER root for the good guys, As for Sephiroth.. I jus like him cause he is a Villan, Still in my top 3 Fav FF Villans. As for him losing to Cloud three times.. Only one reason. He likes to toy with his pray ^^ (Obviously a joke, No need to take it seriously)

I like Sephiroth. I also think he is a very overrated villian, and Square appear to have gotten in the habbit of putting him out there the second they get a chance. Although, I actually prefered his character in Crisis Core. Knowing he was about to become the biggest threat in existence sent shivers down my spine, yet it was cool seeing the "good" side to him, and he even came across as having a wee bit of a soft side to him.

Like the saying "You either die a hero, or live long enough to become the villian."

Nothing pleased me more than seeing him undergo that transformation from hero to villian. Although now I think they should just let him die before he becomes a pain in the ass.

Not really adding to the conversation there guy...

anyways I agree that Sephiroth is probably one of the most pathetic main villain's in Final Fantasy sure he comes back to life in some way in each thing but as said before Cloud just bitchslaps him right back to bed with his nasty mommy..

He's made out to be this epic hero but I think Shinra just made a doll with some "Power" and used him as some hero figure to make shinra more popular,in the end the Doll they made just end's up destroying the company and tries to destroy the planet with his dead mom...just seems a little weak and he only kills a few people in the game

ShinRa's President and Aerith along with some npc's that don't really add to the story.

Ultimecia from FF8 did a better job at trying to control the world than Sephiroth..Sephi who has a mother complex, ooooh I'm a monster complex, and some kind of emotional crap he fails as being the best Villain, hell The Emperor from FFII makes a better villain imo the only real power sephiroth has is being a sneaky bastard who can come back to life like a bloody zombie...TBH the only time he is a badass is when he becomes a angel in the last battle he actually gave me a little trouble.

-sighs and rubs head- ok ok Rant over...but safe to say I dispise sephiroth for being one of the crappiest bosses in FF.

but if you think about it every final boss in every FF is better than sephiroth in many ways..

If you do the extras in Final Fantasy VII and get he Knights of the Round Summon, though, Sephiroth is a cakewalk, especially with it at level 2 paired with W-Summon or Quadro Magic.

I think he's overrated and that includes the game too. Sure, it was a great game, but FFS the fanboys/fangirls of it are annoying. It's like some God or something came down and took a dump and that dump was FF7 and you have all these fanboys/fangirls worshipping it.

I've seen a video of FF7's gameplay and a couple cutscenes, and i'll admit they look pretty cool. However, I do believe Sephiroth's too overrated. He just doesn't click with me. Okay, so he's not human and he didn't know. FFX has the embodiment of the world's sorrow that has to be killed every 10 or so years, forever. And there is a sentinent creature inside, fighting Sin's will. And it NEVER ENDS.

So, what's worse? A half-alien hybrid, or a sentinent creature aware of their own actions but powerless to stop it?

EDIT: Don't worry, not a total FFX fanboy here. I do like other games in the series, don't you worry :P

I dunno... The "black angel wings" thing has been done to death lately.

I'm putting this in the same boat as Evangelion: doesn't cause much of a reaction nowadays, but was mindblowingly crap-yo-pants awesome back in it's prime. They both set standards, and both contain once shining-new ideas that have been dragged through the mud by other series as the years have gone by.
