Nero D. Ace
The correct name for the flower selling girl from FF-VII whose death would traumatize kids for many generations ...What would you say her "proper" english name is? Aeris ... or Aerith?
Koby
As I mentioned in the Chatbox....Aeris is was mistranslation via the original FF7 US release and FFTactics that was has been fixed in the later games she was in. In the Japanese version it's Aerith. Aerith's name is meant to be a bastardization of the word "Earth". The original translator stuffed up when translating it into English, and not the recent translators. (after all, the original FFVII translations weren't exactly great). idl12
Yep, it's definitely Aerith, On another forum we went through the original Japanese script a few times, Aeris is a translation error, something which unfortunately FF7 as good as it was, has a few of, eg the line"This guy are sick" and the two guards you can talk to after leaving the first train who don't seem to make any sense, even Barret's cussing wasn't actually there.though no one actually complained about that lol. †Shazi
it was officially Aerith, Aeris was a mistranslation.
Legado
Even if you know Aerith is the 'official' name in both the Japanese and American releases?Yea i know what you mean but Ive been calling Aerith Aries for so long it become the first name that pop out of my mouth if i talk about Aerith. Eventually i know I would call Aerith(when the remakes comes out) but as of now i can't seem to call Aerith, Aerith, esp. when my brother call her by Aeris too LOL. †Ferocia Coutura
I think Aeris just sounds wierd. It doesn't flow like Aerith does, if that makes any sense. ;P
Pinkie Pie
Aeris, because Aerith sounds weird, even if it's ~official~.

Catwoman
I'm more attatched to Aeris but the official side of me calls her Aerith. If I'm honest, I don't really care about the name. Both are beautiful.I'm mostly into her personality and abilities.
Kasoivc
inb4trolling. Could always call her Aerisu. (LOL, Man I remember when a bunch of kids were arguing about this during class one day. Just made me want to facepalm myself.)Koby and Idl are right, the official name is considered and will always be Aerith. However you're also right, Indy, in the sense that this problem will plague generations of FF7 followers for years to come.
Yoshi Mushi
I have to stick with Aerith. Why? Cause' FF VII -Crisis Core was my FIRST played through FF game. Plus I <3 Aerith. Nuff said xD

Aeris10102
Aeris is a more flowing name, in my opinion. However, I understand it was a mistake and Aerith is, sadly, her actual name.

Green Dragoon
Umm, I'll say both, I'll say the name Aeries more lol. I'll say that is the proper name to say since I first know her or her name about it.
Exiku
I know her name is Aerith...even KHII (I think?) pronounces it! But for the life of me, I can't stop calling her Aeris...I've played that game 3-4 times before the correction came out. If she was a real person that I knew personally, I'd make the effort to fix it...but she's not. This is a dilemma for me - I don't want to appear as the stuck-up stubborn fan who denies change; I accept the intended name...but I can't change my habit...not yet anyway. I guess I can look at it as being part of a generation who grew up and came into being before translators wised up?My only wish is that, please don't rag on me for calling her Aeris (even in my fanfiction) Those mistranslations shaped the world of FFVII for me, and perhaps made it more dramatic - such as the idea that Tseng was dead (mistranslation), rather than mortally wounded (what actually happened)
