Hmm.. trying to make judgment on this theme.

I know you linked to a wiki about abstract, but that can be interpreted as a few different things. Do you mean abstract as a design form, or abstract as a "thing"?

If in design form, are we able to use abstract as part of a render, or are you looking for something that has no anime and simply an abstract sort of image (see here).

If you mean as an object, then disregard this post :P

How can so many of you call yourself artists yet never heard of abstract? It's a common word in the world of art, whether it be hand-drawn or made in photoshop or whatever.

Abstract doesn't really have any particular shape to it. It's just freedom in a picture.

Abstraction indicates a departure from reality in depiction of imagery in art. This departure from accurate representation can be only slight, or it can be partial, or it can be complete. Abstraction exists along a continuum. Even art that aims for verisimilitude of the highest degree can be said to be abstract, at least theoretically, since perfect representation is likely to be exceedingly elusive. Artwork which takes liberties, altering for instance color and form in ways that are conspicuous, can be said to be partially abstract. Total abstraction bears no trace of any reference to anything recognizable.

Exactly my point.. Abstract is something with no particular shape, and as such, can be judged as "anything". Abstract in digital art usually consists of renders or art drawn in 3dmax or cinema4d (like Irish's entry above), however, abstract as a word usually means out of the ordinary.

It's not a term only used in art, and thus it's a little confusing.

Why I asked if I could use an anime render or not, is to see if combining something like digital abstract images (such as Irish's entry) in conjunction with a render to blend it in is acceptable..

I guess the thing is, abstract is used as a genre nowadays, like grunge, vector art, etc.

*shrugs*
