Elnidfse
What is the meaning of working hard if you could die tomorrow. The only time that should have any meaning is the present. Planning for tomorrow should not dominate your life. If you can't enjoy your present before you think of tomorrow then the day you die would be a day of regrets. So I ask, what is the meaning of life? All science tells us is that we are coming to an end. That human civilization WILL crumble. That unless our science advances to a certain extreme no planet will be able to host us.This thought bring me trouble. I mean if humanity is going to die, then what good is the future?I studied religion for awhile. Flocked from one to the other. it becomes obvious that religion is mainly a source of a "happy ending"When you think about it, that makes sense. A happy ending? Perfect... Many great thinkers have probably thought about it one time or another. Thats probably one of the reasons they are the most religious. Think, heaven or hell. Its just what people need to have a purpouse in life. The thought that your actions pay off in the end in comforting. So if indeed religion is false. Then what else. What else can possibly motivate. What else is there. If we die and thats it, what could you possibly do?No i don't say "don't appreciate life" with all of its limitability we should have fun with it. Do the things that makes us happy. Even if that puts you only in the moment. What else is there aside from that. But I have went astray. Our purpouse in life, what could it possibly be? No amount of thought has helped me silence this one question. I once thought when I was younger that we were here to save the earth. If that is indeed true then we're an experiment gone horribly wrong. So I ask again, what could the purpouse of life think.(Give it some thought. Don't post *empty-hearted* generic comments like "to have kids" or "to go to heaven")
-PHXN- New001
The purpose of life is to enjoy it as much as possible.Which seems like a simple answer, but its a very very hard thing to do.So heres what I'm saying, alot of religions capitalize on the thought of an "after life". Meaning, give me your money, you're not gonna need it when your dead.I think I can say that 90% of organized religions share this view, and trust me its there. If you really want to get depressed and loose all faith in human beings... think of this:We do EVERYTHING in life, to delay the inevitable.Seriously think about it. Modernly what is our main focus in our youth? Education. And who here thinks their education is practical? I do not. So whats it doing? Its "preparing" us for a job.But why do we get jobs? Well cause we need money. And why do we need money? SO we can buy food, water. Or even worse, to live in luxury. So why do we need food and water? Ohhhh To live ofcourse. But if we're just gonna die anyway, whats the point? The points is that delaying the inevitable should not be your purpose in life. For about 75% I would say thats their purpose in life.If you love what you are doing, and love life, than charitability and a long life will always find you. Elnidfse
Your on the exact same wavelength as I am. However i'm really trying to find out just what reason people have to work to the grave. The reason I have my job right now is because it helps me get money. The money I get from that I save to keep my livelihood and the rest I sepnd on my happiness. However, there are people out there who work all their lives, save up for their lives. And have nothing when they die. I don't think leaving anything behind should be the goal of life, But I do belive that life without a satisfaction ratio of 80% isn't something worth living. orangeLemon
For me the meaning of life is to find the meaning of life. Curiosity is what drives my life, and is the only thing that I really look forward to, learning more about the world around me. If information is not what you thrive on, your meaning is to enjoy yourself in any way possible. Without knowledge life is just repetition, each ounce of knowledge changes every day life. WolfOfTheTwilitForest
I think there's no meaning in life and we just need to live life and try and get the most out of it. I believe in multiple deities but I don't think that they are going to save us from our problems. They could help us a little but nothing major. We, the ones who are actually living in this world, need to find our own solutions to our problems. That's what I think.
Deathbytalkshow:--
Life is life and what you make your life into could be important to others like, becoming a doctor, making a break through in Science etc... Did Einstein, Isaac Newton, Antony Van Leeuwenhoek, Zacharias Janssen and other Scientists lives have meaning? Yes, they meant a lot, their discoveries and theories have shaped our world into what we see today.
Guest Mithra
There is only 2 kinds of people whom are good, although there are many kinds of bad. Ones with courage, and those whom are to weak to stand up to the darkness. Fight, your will is a powerful thing. We live under the God of our world, so we must under go punishmnet. For the god of this world is Satan, this is his world, Punishmnet. He is being punished, thus we, his followers, the fallen angels will under go punishment. This isn't a Satanic post or anything, this is the dark truth. I say, we must bring about the end times, thats our mission. We must destroy Satan, thats my goal. badomen121211
if truely want my honest opinion the real meaning of life is to be born do the best you can make kids set them up to do better than yourself and die in hopes that their children will do better than them and we will be constantly improving our morales, standards, and general intelligence (btw the world started failing at this miserably once children in youth was invented and parents were no longer allowed to teach their children the fear of god on earth which was your drunken pissed off father swinging a yard stick like a fucking light saber at your stupid ass while you cower in the corner begging for reprieve but your only hope is to lose consiousness soon) thank and have a nice day
Citizenmanman
What is more meaningful, then not having meaning? Life has no built in meaning, life allows you to create and formulate your own meaning for it, being completely malleable and dependent on the individuals points-of-view. Including this one. The exception to the rule would be; we are born, we live, we die, we are remembered, we are forgotten. No matter how you look at it, or think of it, all of those play a role in how you view the meaning of life, in some way. (Again with the exception of people who say there is no meaning to anything... meaning... well... nothing... so why say it?)
magix1reaper
While I know this is a mine field I think I'll wade out anyway.Christianity has it right. Serving the supreme being (the Father) will bring joy to you, you just have to acknowledge His existence and that of the Trinity.I say it for those willing to take it. I have heard the mundane "So believing in something that doesn't exist." and acknowledge it. All I have to offer you is those living in Christ have the best lives, as they have the happiness he bestows. You won't understand until you make the effort, if your willing, and realize it for yourself.Until then, welcome to emptiness.

Medora
What is the meaning of working hard if you could die tomorrow. In Doris Kearns Goodwin's Pulitzer Prize winning biography of Abraham Lincoln, Team of Rivals, one of the themes dealt with, in brief detail, is Mr. Lincoln's struggle with disbelief in the afterlife during his young adult years. Since he could not bring himself to believe that his actions would have consequence after his death on this earth, he had to invest his interest, instead, in the legacy he leaves on this earth for others. We work hard because we have motivations on this earth that interest us. Even the slobs among us may find enjoyment in the limited distractions available to us. It's often said that the meaning of life is what you make of it, and indeed, as a social animal with a high functioning brain, we can't help it. †ballard
The meaning of life is whatever you make it out to be... or 42... For me personally it's all about the little things. Try not to worry much about how humans will destroy themselves. Enjoy life while you can... you only get one shot at it.(O wow... I didn't realize how old this thread was XD...) idl12
To me, life means making as much people smile as possible, whether it's by deeds or, like me, with jokes so horrible that you just have to laugh.
Chaos92
I beleive that the meaning of life is what you make of it, the more meaning you find in it the more enjoyable it is. I think the meaning of life is to enjoy every second you get. I guess the only way to truly contemplate it is to live it to the fullest extent,

throwaway319fg
I think everyone has their own take on what "the meaning of life" really is. For many young people, like myself, we are still trying to find out what that is....and that's natural. I believe, that as time goes by, and we gain more experience from life itself, which includes happy moments to tragic events we must endure, and these experiences help us shape the definition for what we think the "meaning of life" is. We can't have a simple post on a thread, like mine, even define what the "meaning of life" is for others. Its something special we all have to find on our own.
