Resident Evil or Silent Hill

Resident Evil for nostalgic reasons. Remember running around desperately looking for ammo while a frog monster (think they were called hunters) chased me throughout the mansion. Fun times... scary times.

The classic RE games (1 & 2 at least) are the best in terms of survival horror/puzzle-solving gameplay).

I have not played much of silent hill, but I have indeed heard that is generally more terrifying.

Though I would not consider RE4 a survival-horror in the same sense as RE1, it is a great action game (I count 4 & 5 apart (5 isn't that good though...)).

any resident evil beyond 4 is crap i have only played 1 of the silent hills and i liked it.. personally just play both lol XD

RE's 1-4 are survival horror games however 5 and 6 chose a more Action-Horror route. 

While it doesn't lessen the fun of each game, fans of the genre ultimately lose out on the elements that were previously attached to the other game. 

Silent Hill on the other hand....focuses a lot more on Horror-Puzzle solving. They wrap each one of their games around this trope of Psychology and mental trauma and is a lot more slower-paced and, in some cases, frustrating game play mechanics. That doesn't take from the game though but it's apples and oranges when compared to RE. If you start any of the Silent Hill games and are compelled to go for more that 2 hours then it's for you. Otherwise, the direction, pacing and focus on scare would make you change your mind.

Hmm this is a difficult choice considering as CoffeNik said both the games are quite different but I think I'm gonna go with Resident Evil but Pyramid Head will always have a place in my book as a badass lol

Man, Pyramid Head rocks as a villain and if you played SH 2 and you get what created Pyramid ....it's just so damn excellent.

Agreed, his creation was quite awesome, all of the monsters in the games are, how they all represent something to do with the player character

I've played the first four of the Resident Evil games, but only the first Silent Hill game. From what I've seen so far, I'd rate Silent Hill higher. Resident Evil is more of a run of the mill action game with zombies thrown in, but Silent Hill is a genuine horror game.

very true moppet   i dont think re is much of a horror anymore  silent hill on the other hand is still very much a horror 

i think a key dif is that silent hill is a survivor horror while re is  a action horror  so its just a matter of which one u like

Well it depends i really like both games...

But i don't like the direction both games have taken. If we are talking about the games now. I would have to pick neither, but the new RE that is coming out looks good so we will see.

I like them both but strongly prefer silent hill over resident evil. Silent Hill doesnt try to rush its games and all of the games come together to form a huge story that is just awesome.

I would prefer Resident Evil over Silent Hill, because of the nice awesome story line and and the nostalgia

For Silent Hill its just way over my comfort level, i admit I'm really afraid of playing after seeing my relatives played the first one

I prefer Resident Evil but, I do play Silent Hill. The last of both titles I played was Resident Evil 6 and Silent Hill Downpour. Downpour was definatley scarier. I was near the end when your in the prison again, and my buddies in my room watching the Grey while I'm playing it. And all these ghost inmates jumped out when I wasn't expecting it and I screamed, and he looks at me like dude WTF?!
