Koby
Kazuma Miki, the light novel editor and an anime producer for Sword Art Online, stated at a "SAO and GGO New Anime and Original Work Stage" presentation at a Sword Art Online fan meeting event on Saturday that the upcoming Sword Art Online: Alicization anime will cover the entirety of the Alicization arc from Reki Kawahara's Sword Art Online light novel series. Miki didn't mention any information regarding the length of the new anime. The series will again star Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Kirito and Haruka Tomatsu as Asuna. Ai Kayano will play Alice, and Nobunaga Shimazaki will play Eugeo. The Alicization arc is in volumes 9 through 18 of the original novel series. The anime series has two television anime adaptations, an anime special, and a recent film. The franchise has also inspired multiple manga series, games, and a virtual reality demonstration in Japan. Aniplex of America releases the anime in North America. Skydance Television is planning a live-action series on Netflix based on the novels. The Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale anime film, which opened in Japan in February 2017, had teased that "SAO will return."
Scyrous
Pretty stoked about this. Curious about how it's going to be adapted, as this arc is so massive they'd either have to skip content or it would have to be over 50 episodes or something. Pizza Cat
More SAO. I'm excited as long as it's not like the elfheim saga.

This arc will be nothing like that part of the series. For the most part, it only has Kirito and a new cast from the beginning. I only read the first and second novel of this arc, so far out of around 10, I think. It will be a lot different from the rest of the series, as well. KiyoshiStar
Curious to see how many episodes we'll be getting Going by mangaupdates -- https://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=51038 -- SAO S1 covered like 4 volumes. Assuming SAO S2 did about the same. So, double the volume coverage, double the episode count too? Maybe?

The arc they say will be covered in whole would need about 50-52 episodes to cover unless the rushed it and omitted a lot. I could actually see them doing just that unfortunately, but I do hope they adapt it correctly by not leaving things out.

I agree but they can also complete this arc in 2 seasons if they want to keep episode count to 25-26 per season. I would prefer only 1 season for this arc though. Assuming SAO S2 did about the same. So, double the volume coverage, double the episode count too? Maybe? This info about S1 isn't entirely true. It is more like 4 and a half volumes, since part of Volume 8 is also used for S1. Season 2 also uses a story from Volume 8, as well. The first story of Volume 8 is in Season 1, while the second story is in Season 2 (Murder Case in the Area and Caliber, respectively). Volume 5-7 are covered in Season 2 (GGO and Mother's Rosario). Alicization's main story is Volumes 9-18 with 2 volumes following it to cover a side story from Alicization. That in the end leaves 4 and a half for Season 1, 3 and a half for Season 2, and 10 for Alicization with however they do it (Season 3 and maybe a 4th). The first two seasons covered a total of 8 volumes and even cut out at least 1 whole section of relevant info from the Fairy Dance arc that is meant to fill in the void of missing info from the Caliber arc (the info about Jötunheimr).
