lemmingllama
I guess Microsoft finally realized that they were committing financial suicide by using some of their previous policies. Glad that they are finally switching it up so that people will consider the console. Only thing that is a step in the wrong direction is that now you can't just install the game then not need the disc. If each game disc came with a code that allowed one XBox to not require the disc (basically a direct download code), then it would be perfect.
Nero D. Ace
From the news, it sounds like you need a Day One patch to remove the system MS implemented in the XBone (nope, still calling it that. it's catchy.) Now, the news is still fresh and this is all speculation on my part, but if MS actually planned what I'm thinking through all this time, then they have some wicked genius marketing people - Step 1) PS4 is announced to some criticism. Rather than announce their simple XBox One which is the same as the PS4, except slightly more expensive, slight more focus on entertainment, and slightly less hardware specs, they reveal a preposterous model based off rumors that had been floating the internet for a long time. Step 2) Endure the hate. MS fans are starting to doubt their masters. People are getting pissed the fuck off. They're flocking to Sony in herds. Step 3) E3. Show off games. More exclusives than Sony for a change. Exclusive deals with AAA publishers, not indies. Make these publishers think that their online checks will guarantee them more money. Step 4) Endure some more. Gather more hate than EA. Get stoned and mock people and tell them to buy a 360 if they can't stay connected. Flip everyone off. Step 5) Back Track. Get rid of all that bull shit everyone hates. MS fans flock back. People start thinking it's a victory for the masses. "Fuck Yes! XBox One can be played offline! Great job, Microsoft!" clap, clap, clap. Great job indeed. So now, between the last gen and this gen, what has changed? Nothing, nothing at all. We've fought to defend the privileges we had earlier, not to get new ones. What does this mean for that "select places to trade used games"? The "10 people family plan"? So now publishers are in the same position with MS as with Sony. The console makers won't FORCE you to put DRM. It's your choice, publisher. And if you do, you can bet you ass the riot will rise again. Well played, Microsoft. Well fucking played. osborn_2009
i honestly doubt this conspiracy of "they had it planned all along". I have seen it all over the internet the past few hours and it just doesn't sit right with me. there's no way. lol
Nero D. Ace
I know, it's way too far fetched. But it's just speculation in my mind. It would finally make sense as to why they were going down that obviously suicidal route since the first unveiling. Pay no attention. It's my soap opera fueled my mind trying to erect drama everywhere. ...I really need to get outta here soon. Isolated life just isn't for me. Soul Z
Well, MS is one of the best brands in the world, no wonder they would try something this crazy, but the idea of "Console Steam" isn't so bad but rather not finished on Xbox part and way too narrow. I would preffer a sytem like that to work on both PS4, XBox One and Wii U together, you know, Like Steam for Windows, iMac and Linux. The same stuff, some games are available for PS4 some not and those who got it on all the consoles can play between themselves. You got a profile that has all your games and when you want you go to other console that isn't yours, log in and you got your stuff in it ready to go, doesn't matter if it's PS4 or Xbox One. I would really like it, because I got a lot of real life friends who are playing COD on PS4 while I am playing on Xbox because I am a huge Bungie fan and want to play Halo so badly and when it comes to playing COD I can't play it with my fellas. D: But unfortunately that will never happen and it's all just but a dream. D:

lolrawr
Welp guys time for a name change... Lol in all seriousness I'm quite surprised how Microsoft actually listened to the cries of hundreds of gamers. I can't believe there were actually apologists who were saying we should get over it and just take it. I will never own an Xbox product, but today is a victory for gaming as a whole. Also props to Sony for sticking to their guns. I'm sure if Sony did the same as Microsoft, Microsoft wouldn't have changed. Todo list:Get rid of mandatory KinectDrop price $100 or more

nemarious
A few thoughts: There is a still a mandatory online requirement, like Nero said, at the beginning to remove the shit. So, if you don't have ANY internet access, you're still fucked. I find the whole idea of Microsoft "having more" exclusive than Sony to be a bit forgetful. Sure, they had more at E3, but you have to remember Sony announced the PS4 in February and announced a load of new games there so of course Microsoft would have more at E3. They didn't say anything about games - aside from name-dropping some - at their announcement conference. I would agree them having exclusive deals with AAA developers is more of a coup than than Sony's focus on Indie exclusives however. Sony's best seemed to be timed exclusive to TES Online beta. On the subject of design. Do people ever truly expect something like some of the concept stuff we say when we get the rumblings of a new console. They're always going to look like big black boxes of plastic. Frankly, I'm pleased with how they look. As I'll have six consoles stood upright on my shelf by the time I've got next generation bought it's far easier how they look now than the PS3's dome. Overall, this doesn't change anything for me. I would have bought an Xbox One anyway, when the price had come down. What I'm glad about though is this reverts the whole thing back to which console has your favourite games on rather than whether you want a next gen console with freedom or not. It should ALWAYS be about the games in my book, I'm happy that's true again. Edited June 20, 2013 by nemarious
nemarious
Additionally, EA have come out to clarify that their Online Passes are "dead". There was some speculation that, as EA announced they were scrapping them a week before the Xbox One announcement, they saw the consoles implemented DRM as a replacement. To the contrary, CEO Peter Moore came out with the following statement earlier today: As we said a few weeks ago, none of our new EA titles will include online pass, and we are removing it from existing games as well. Nothing else on today’s news, but did want to be clear that our online pass decision was based on player feedback, and there’s no change. Full interview was held with Polygon. DrumRoll
what xbox need to realise is that most television is really rather shit these days, therefore making a console-cum-media box is doomed to fail.
coffeeNiK
Well it hasn't changed my mind on going to get a Ps4 later on. I didn't like that they felt they could have gotten away with something like that. Everything afterwards is just going to feel disingenuous. For the most part, hopefully we'll get more games now... But I have always planned on getting a Xbox One eventually, this just makes me feel better about it.

† L4ugh
I won't buy this version of the Xbox, I don't even play the 360 I have now. IMO, Microsoft seems to be doing everything they can to turn into Apple. I personally think that is a very flawed business move. The only console I'll probably consider this gen is whatever Valve's steam box becomes.
Snowburden
what xbox need to realise is that most television is really rather shit these days, therefore making a console-cum-media box is doomed to fail. Eh I wouldn't really say that, sure hundreds a day are changing to Netflix and streaming medias, but TV as a whole will be around for a long time... odds are if anything of what you're saying that television is gone, would be either the next gen consoles, or the gen after that. Then, that would be complete fail. But things like HBO, STARZ, etc., will be here for a long time... probably will still be here when TV is gone (if that ever happens, high doubts though). Until streaming medias can get new content such as a new episode on day-one, then maybe TV will fail and stream media will take over entirely. Hulu is kinda like that... at least at first. NOW, it's about a week after until you finally get the new episode on average. So even Hulu is backtracking. I still have TV, yet I only watch Netflix and streaming stuff (other family members watch TV). I really like how the Xbox One is becoming an entertainment system, even though I probably will hardly even use the TV thing, if not at all (probably will get rid of TV soon before the One comes out). But the cool thing that I'm looking forward to is playing games while watch Netflix or something... going to be sweet.
GoddessLuna
I kind of wished they did not change their mind so for once my friends would be Playstation fans like me but nope lol. They went back to Xbox after theses changes. I will always follow sony. I had their devices as long as I can remember they never let me down ever. They released the best JRPG's. They will always be my first pick. I don't like Xbox because they only get these shooter games and stuff I don't like. Thats one of the main reason my bf went back to xbox he loved his halo and all those stupid shooter games lol. He was planning on getting a ps4 me and him were gonna half it together but now that xbox got their customers back I will never get him back to the PS side </3 Also another reason why I am getting Ps4 is because of this vid it cracked me up.
