Are some animes too short

Some thing I noticed a while ago is that some animes get to wrapped up in exposition or a lengthy opening and or ending sequences. This makes the main part of the show shorter. Like one piece, the run time is meant to be about 25 minutes yet the actual show takes up only about 19 of that. Thats 6 minutes worth of themes and beginning exposition at the beginning. This happens for others to. I might be just being picky but when I'm into an episode I don't like it when it seems like it ends early just because they had to fill it with extra gabble de' gook. Grrrrr gimmie more.

I noticed that this is just a recent trend in anime. Is it the animators way of trying to be lazy or something else. One piece is a great example simply due to the fact that they didn't always do this. The old episodes vs the new ones make good comparison in terms of the time frame style of the anime.

So what do you think, and what other animes do this when you wish they didn't.

Well, really any anime that has an intro or outro that plays every episode should cut it. I do see the point about having OP and ED, but extra stuff besides that is really quite pointless. Although most anime episodes are 20 minutes long, same with older ones and newer ones. Its just that there is more filler junk inbetween each episode if the series is ongoing.

My sentiments exactly, and when they opt for silly things like disposition in every episode it just seems to make the show even shorter. Its almost like having a great dinner but some of the food is missing. You just end up leaving the table without that contented full feeling.

Yes I agree right when your right into the action it ends. I remember it wasn't always like this. Older stuff ran about 25 minutes while newer animes seem to last about 20. I know its only a few minutes but I want more.

It's mostly to save money and fill time. Long anime like Naruto and One Piece don't actually have enough content to fill an entire 200+ episode series, so they have to pad as much as they can along the way. 6 minutes per episode ends up being hundreds of minutes per season that contain no original content.

You would think thusly wouldn't you. But shows like Those obnoxnes aliens" and the like would disagree. No exposition just an OP and an ED thats all and the series lasted for a long time about 195 and lasted about five years with half the current budget that current animes halve.

I can understand that the padding allows them to save a little money but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

Don't worry I'm not talking out of spite or any thing. Just see it this way. Your really into an espisode that already technicly started late due to an exposition. Then after about 15 minutes at the 19 or 20 minute mark the show just ends without warning. You look at it and start thinking that you need more. Its a real shame.

I know what you mean, I have noticed this to. I use to think when I watched animes on TV that the anime were short not due to the OP and ED but due to the AD's they had to play during them. The shows get like a 30 minute time slot and have to fit AD's with the shows. But wether that is the case or not is anyone guess. Maybe they make the eps short so that the show drags out longer and the animators make more money for more eps?

Personally, I enjoy dancing along with the intro and closing themes and actually prefer them attached to each episode. Which is funny because I tend to marathon through series so I'm just hearing the same songs over and over.

I like the format even if the overall story of each episode seems cut a little short.

You know, part of the reason may be to save money and to fill time (I'm gonna have to disagree about the amount of content, especially when looking at the manga), but I'm pretty sure the absolute biggest reason is... you are left feeling that you...want...more. That is what cliffhangers are for.

Sorry if it sounds like I'm *****ing, that really, really isn't my intent.

I know what cliff hangers are for and I don't mind them. Your taking my example to literally. Naw its the feeling of wanting more after its all done, like there just wasn't enough. Then you realize that even if it was for 2 minutes in the beginning, that those to minutes could easily be used to help fill out the show.

Its not that big I was just wondering what others thought when they felt something similar.

I know exactly what your'e talking about. For example, Rave Master and Bersek had those expositions at the beginning, then the OP then with Rave Master you get the previous episode summary, next episode summary and ED. I remember watching an episode of Bleach that when they finally got to the actual beginning of the episode, they where 7 minutes in.

I wanted Angel Beats to be longer, it was such a great anime<3

But animes like Bleach and Naruto are just too long -.-

I agree Angel beats should of been longer, they could of made it soooooo good! However, Bleach and Naruto are to long I cant get over the fact of how good they are!
