Honestly Bandai has been neglecting fans for years. The series they release here are few and far between and usually high priced compared to companies like FUNimation. On top of that they've failed to produce Blu-rays for anything other than the Gundam 00 movie and Gundam Unicorn despite shows like Code Geass and Gundam 00 having Blu-ray releases in Japan. Also they've even failed to release complete box-sets for like half their series to begin with. So yeah despite them doing quality stuff when they did get around to it... I kind of think this move is for the best as it'll allow someone like FUNimation to snatch them up and actually give the shit proper releases here Stateside.

I don't know much about the entertainment field, but it seems to me that doing this would only hurt them more than it already does. I get the impression from reading other reviews that this is either a very bad thing or a reasonably good thing, but I'm pretty sure that this will set back fans of these series. Whoever picks this deal up, whether it be FUNimation or any other company, will have either no business or increased revenue from famished fans frantically buying.

That's just me though. I'm probably not as informed as I should be. :D

Alot of the voice actors im friends with on facebook epically Chris and Greg Ayers are blaming it 100% on pirating. And alot of people are like "OMG BLARG PIRATES BURN" and I'm like facepalm. Its funny how they are all anti-piracy but then when the voice actors arnt looking they pirate. Trust me, I know some people are like that. Hell even I pirate, am I ashamed of it, not really. Yeah I have a job but I only get paid 190 every two weeks. And the prices bandai had on their releases, yeah bandai you can go fuck your selves and dig your selves a bigger hole you put your selves into making the prices exactly the same prices over in japan pretty much. I never bought a item from bandai and now im glad I will never buy one because I would of been ripped off.

*Sorry for the text wall*

Anyways, Im hoping other companies get their hands on the titles that will be thrown into the air next month. Really hoping Funimation gets most of them, they have been treating alot of titles very well. It was only a matter of time before this happened. And really all you can do is just move on, this isnt the first time a company closed doors.

I think this sudden movement should let us realize that piracy does not help.

Doesn't have anything to do with Piracy. The simple fact is, to make money you need to actually release something. Bandai has been holding out for a long time. Especially with their Gundam series which is their biggest and highest seller. They failed to even release Gundam 00 on Blu-ray despite being released on Blu-ray in Japan. The same problem occurred with Code Geass which would have sold like crazy had they released it on Blu-ray with reasonable prices.

Instead though, they wanted to release way over priced sets of just 7-9 episodes and only on DVD.

So Bandai pretty much built their own coffin.

Now this news really sucks ass... but on a positive note, at least Funimation may now have a chance to acquire all those anime after the license expires.

I would have to agree with you considering on wikipedia it says:

"The company announced on January 2, 2012 that they will stop offering DVD, Blu-ray disc and manga releases by February. Bandai Entertainment will be restructured to focus on licensing anime to other companies."

And the ANN site says:

"Releases in Bandai Entertainment's current catalog will still be available after February, and Bandai Entertainment plans to produce new stock on these existing releases, if needed, until their respective licenses expire."

Hoping FUNimation or some other company BLU-ray releases Code Geass.
