Final Fantasy X - How Do You Pronounce Tidus?

Hi everyone. this is my first thread and iam new here so sorry for any mistakes i make.

I would like to ask everyone how do they pronounce Tidus..?

I pronounce it Tie-dus..

while some people pronounce it Tee-dus

how do u pronounce it?

Tee-dus?

or do you have some other pronounciation.

If u play Dissidia in the psp they pronounce his name as tee-dus. Normally people will think its tie-dus coz it sounds better

It's official pronunciation is Tee-dus. They pronounce it that way in Kingdom Hearts, also.

I always knew how it was pronounced and was amazed when others said it was tie-dus.

My boyfriend thought this way too until Dissidia. To which I then openly mocked him. xD

I always pronounced it Tee-dus because I played Dissidia before I tried playing FFX. Tie-dus just sounds weird to me, but I guess I can see why so many people pronounce it the other way, given that the word titan is pronounced tie-tun.

Tie-dus sounds akward. I always said Tee-dus from when I first pkayed the game. I think it flows better.

Well, in Dissidia, it's pronounced as "Tea-Dus".

When I played the game, I thought it was 'Tie-dus' for pretty much the same reason as Phoenix0402 said - his affinity for water. But then I watched the 'Making of...' DVD bundled with my copy of FFX and his VA said 'Tee-dus' and this pronounciation was further backed by further reading where his name has roots with an old Japanese word 'Tiida' which was related to the Sun (hence Sun-related weapon powers-ups in the EN version; sunny disposition; tanned skin; light hair) to complement Yuna which has roots in the Moon (Moon-related weapon power-ups; reserved personality; fair skin; air of mystery...)

The symbolism was quite deep and fun to realise once that puzzle piece was put in place.

I have and always will pronounce it Tie-dus. Just like Zidane will always be Zid-ayne. I even still call Cecil, Seesul. I like those pronunciations better, is all.

I pronounced it as Tie-dus when I played it. I've never played Dissidia and disliked KH so didn't know that wasn't the "correct" or "official" pronunciation.

I think the problem is English phonetics. Most people with English as their first language see the 'i' and assume it's pronounced like the i in ride or climb for example because, for the most part, English word pronunciation seems to be based on the whole word whereas, with other languages, they say each syllable separately which could explain the tee sound like with chi being pronounced chee.

I'm probably wrong, I'm not some sort of linguistics expert. It does make me curious though as to how some of the place names in my games will be pronounced. Maybe I'll have a little guide to proper Nemarian pronunciation
