My suggestions for 2011 are

Level E- About an socially inept/comedic alien who crash lands on earth, loses his memory and reacts on the diagonal. Its a pretty funny modern style anime comedy.

I second this recommendation. I read the manga and it was hilarious, same goes for the anime!

Otherwise, if you're looking for a longer series to watch, why not try 'Twelve Kingdoms'?

It's 45 episodes and it weaves a fantastic group of stories. Sadly the last arc is unresolved due to series cancellation. *sniffsniff*
