Ace Posted June 23, 2011 Report Share Posted June 23, 2011 Ghost in the Shell was good but it was Akira which was the landmark in anime history both in the West as well as in Japan.Most guys I know have seen Akira but never even heard of Ghost in the Shell so in terms of impact in the anime world, Akira takes the cake, hands down. Gits was an amazing film in terms if animation and plot, not to mention it was one of the first animes I've seen. Akira was good as well....but I wasn't as fond of it. It did have a pretty epic plot and did popularize anime in the west....but I still preferred gits. In saying that i do have a preferance for cyberpunk... bigbird2012 Posted December 3, 2011 Report Share Posted December 3, 2011 Remember mid 90's in school getting a copy on vhs of Akira and being one of my 1st experiences with the anime genre. Pretty landmark for it's time but, always felt there was alot more missing information that was never explained in the film. Had to track the manga and there is so much missing from the film!
