One of the best ways of improving is to try something new or let someone else pick a theme and you work on it rather than doing everything on your own. It's sad to see posts like these as a fellow graphic designer.

i agree with Koby. All you need is a render, then you can use your talent as a designer to make a great sig. Not entering a contest cuz you don't like the theme is like not kissing a girl cuz you don't like her lipstick. Um, I don't know how I came up with that but you catchh my drift. If a contest has a theme I don't like, e.g Naruto, I'd just type 'naruto render' into google and work with what I get. I may not be the best artist but contests are for fun and to get better and by entering a contest with a theme you don't like, you're kind of improving yourself. But then again, it's your choice and you don't have to listen to me lol

Don't get sad if one fish swims away there are plenty of fish in the sea...Actually I don't think that is related to this conversation lol XD Well I personally loved this anime, so I'll be entering..On time, this time hahaha -.- but its slim pickings as far as renders go..

To each their own really, but Koby and RazorDan are on the money. I don't care

for Bleach but still made a sig for the SOTW. As long there is a pic or render is out there, a sig can be made.

ah Ghost in the Shell, I like this theme, unfortunately I've logged in too late in the game, and I don't have enough time to make a "decent" sig.., yeah sure, 1-2 hours is enough, but not for this guy. I'm not really against though on Joenn's decision on not participating, it's mostly a personal choice...but then again, it's a good thing diversifying yourself. Give it a try, and if you don't win or it doesn't look good, then try again. You'll learn......I'm looking forward to some nice entries!!
