Anyone play Final Fantasy XI?

Does anyone play FFXI? I don't because you have to pay monthly. The Sony released another firmware update for the PS3 which allows PS3 owners to play FFXI on the PS3 and put the files on the hard drive. If you didn't have to pay monthly to play this, I would go by this.

I don't because I don't have any network adapter for my PS2, and never bothered to try any online games for any console. However if I didn't have to pay monthly to pay it I might actually look into getting it.

yeah i heard loads of people bad mouth the game to plus the only online game i play is guild wars and i dont even like that haha so no i havent played it.

i would pay for it just to get the one month free usage and then see whether i like the game or not, i wouldn't buy it for a console though, i'd use my PC.

I play this game, have been playing it since its north american release^^;

I really didnt like it at first but I got into it over time. Most people dont like it starting out thats why its got a bad rep from some people but it does get alot better, its not for casual game players though, if you want to get something out of it you have to very 'hardcore' with it and literally have no life lol... its not as popular in america as it is in other countries (originally made for japan/europe) because the majority of the english players are casual (hints why they go and play WoW more)

I'm actually probably going to get it tomorrow. Funny, everyone here keeps saying they've heard really bad things about it. I, on the other hand, have heard almost nothing but good things about it. It seems like it's probably going to be pretty, well... It seems like it might suck starting out, but after level 12 or so, it's supposed to get better.

I like how there's always something to do. I played World of Warcraft for about five months and constantly hated how you could only have two trade skills. FFXI gives you all of them. I also like how you always have something to look forward to when leveling. I never got past level 41 in WoW because the entire time I was simply looking forward to my mount. After level 40, you have to wait until like 60 before things get interesting again. In FFXI, it seems like you're always getting something when you level up. At least, that's what my friends tell me.

I can't decide what race to choose from, nor can I choose what job to start with. I'm probably going to with a Hume (male) Red Mage, but I was also considering Elvaan Thief, Black Mage, or Red Mage. I kind of want to try out Dark Knight and Dragoon, but I have to get at least level 30 to do so. Also, I really wish to try out all (or nearly all) of the jobs, making Hume a perfect choice because of their balance. Trying out the various jobs will also be made easier due to the sub-job system. Hah, it'll pretty much force me to do so.

Anyhow, I'm really looking forward to getting this game. Can't wait 'til tomorrow. I just hope the updates don't take too long.

Hey if you do decide to get it come to server odin^^ I can hook you up starting out and get you into a linkshell. Its true the game get awesome the higher up you go, alot of people are returning to FFXI that are finished with WoW, afew people came back to our linkshell that completed WoW and became bored because there is nothing to do when you max your lvls and gear out in WoW. But yeah its really fun, really detailed when it comes to character and job developement. Hit me up if you get it, name is Reenhart (:

Well this is old thread but I will do the ulitimate taboo and add a post.

I am now 585 days playtime on the game and its for sure not your fathers Final Fantasy game as they would say. It is a world (32 servers with 7k average of peeps) with 1000's of FF fans and has chocobo's, airships plus moggles but the game play is totally different from the rest of the series. But.. it seems to be what is defining the new games coming out from Square. Many people now admit that FFXII is just a none online version of FFXI with a different story. Here's hoping that FFXIII goes back to the roots of the series.

I've been playing for over 3 years now. I'm a tarutaru on Caitsith named Crumpet with White mage, Dark knight, Summoner, Ninja and Bard maxed out with ranged getting closed

I don't play it. I never liked the concept of monthly payments to play a game. I wouldn't have time anyways. I heard something that they were scrapping the Final Fantasy XI servers. Thus you wouldn't be able to play it online soon... because they will soon be releasing Final Fantasy XIV which is due to take over for Final Fantasy XI.

I dunno if that's 100% accurate though. But Final Fantasy XIV is Square-Enix new MMORPG.

They're merging some servers this month. They're not going to scrap ffxi for a while yet, they're releasing 3 new add ons called Abyssea and raising the level cap to 99 eventually (It's 75 at the moment)
