XboxBoy121
FMA was awesome but i like Brotherhood as it has a more interesting story. plus it is in widescreen and more characters. so yeah that is what i prefer.
Arvo
Definitely Brotherhood. The ending was epic to say the least, I also love the music and animation in Brotherhood more. Ling is a champ. Roy and Envy are much more badass in this one. I also think it was great the way they use Selim Bradley it Brotherhood. The story is so much better than the original (not to say the original wasn't good). However I do agree with Koby's statement about the first 13 episodes were rushed. I would have recommended FMA Brotherhood before the original to people had it not been so rushed at the start. I recommend people watch the original to get a good grasp on the story and especially to get to know/understand some characters better (specifically Maes Hughes). Both versions are brilliant, however in my opinion Brotherhood is better. It stays true to the Manga, has better characters, music and most of all, much better story. If anyone is wondering which one to watch, I say both. Watch the original first, and watch brotherhood afterwards, but start watching like you have never seen it before (the change in story blows your mind by the end of it).TL;DR: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, though both are great. Child0fTheMind
I prefer the original over brotherhood... and I have seen both. The original is constantly put down because of it's "filler"... And yet, it doesn't have any! How? You might ask, because it is NOT FMA the manga, nor is it Brotherhood. It has it's very own story, apart from the manga, and so, none of it could truly be thought of as "filler".Is DBGT filler? How can it, if it is it's very own story that is apart from the manga of the same name? Or Age of Aquarius the manga vs Age of Aquarius the Anime? If these were intended to be an exact representation of the manga; then yes, they would be filler. But they were not, they were all given their very own story, and in this sense, they cannot have filler. Now, as to my intentions to why I like FMA vs Brotherhood? The Heart, the feeling, the emotion... Brotherhood tries too hard to add comedy were there should be none (making it quite annoying at moments), while FMA added it's humor at the right moments, humor that went with the events depicted, comedy that was clever and genuine (not simply slap-stick).As was something I once heard, "I would challenge the entire concept of "comic relief". My question is always "Relief from what?". Why do show creators assume that I need to be "relieved"? I like drama, suspense, and action, Show creators don't have to be apologetic about their serious shows by inserting humor into "off"-scenes. Comedy is great, but I have no problem with a show being serious 100% of the time either." I feel the story was suppose to be dark and gritty, about devotion, sacrifice, and will power... Now, Brotherhood does have these, but it gives them in quantities that are inaccurate or simply inefficient to true life events (which is what FMA tried to give you a feeling of, that this story could have happened in world like our own, only different in the slightest). And the ending is what I feel the most for, in FMA the sacrifice of Ed to restore his brother, truly heartfelt and made you cry, but deep down you felt it was destined to be all along; but also leaving you with a slight glimmer of hope, that they would be together one day. A happy ending, yet... sad and heartbreaking at the same moment...Also, The decision to intertwine the FMA world with our own not only grounded it in a sort of Newtonian mysticism, it also brought the consequences of our own world's history into the story. Amazing, truly a great and magnificent ending. Now, after saying all this... I will say that what I do like of Brotherhood, are some (not all) of the character designs and history (the homunculus for one...), and yet I feel the opposite for the character development (I prefer more of FMA's character development than Brotherhoods)Sidenote: Isn't what Brotherhood did to the beginning of the series just as bad as most think FMA was? Condensing all the story and character development into just a few episodes because "FMA" already did it? That doesn't seem to be a "true depiction" of the manga to me... I don't see Dragonball Kai leaving anything out just because it was already in Dragonball Z. The makers of Brotherhood are only hurting the fans and those new to anime by removing such story. It's almost a necessity to watch FMA prior to watching Brotherhood, just to get the emotion and deep character development to love the characters properly. This shouldn't be the case if the intention of Brotherhood was to be better and more accurate than FMA.
Eelric
Only 5 eps into Brotherhood, so far. First impressions: tighter storytelling, more background detail, music not as good so far, the extra manga expressions take a bit of getting used to. †Apollo
This is difficult as I love both of them. I suppose I'd have to go with Brotherhood only because it actually follows the manga. However, as many of you said, if you take just the first few episodes of Brotherhood, it isn't so good because they rushed through it. But after that, it's great! DrumRoll
brotherhood hands down. I almost didn't like the original FMA but Brotherhood is sheer awesomenessnessness.
marcellus
It's a tough one for me but I'm going to have to go with brotherhood on this one. No filler characters,or stories plus it follows the manga almost down to the very last detail.
Kobe
same here, brotherhood does follow the original story more closely.

sireragon15
While I loved the original, I like Brotherhood better. The story is less drawn out and is longer and deeper. The animation is better. The characters feel more fleshed out. The whole thing has more comedy in it than the original. It had a lot of episodes with just drama. While this was good, it kind of got depressing. Still, all that said, I love the original and still watch it sometimes. I like Brotherhood more though. Brotherhood was shallow as can be and just flat with no emotion mainly because of all the shitty wrongly placed humor that didn't fit where they happened to stash it. Characters more fleshed out? LOL are you just spamming? Brotherhood lacked character depth, they assumed you saw the original so they skipped all that stuff and just rushed the plot way too quickly. They left key parts out which you couldn't notice were missing unless you did not watch the original. All my friends who didn't see the original noticed something was off and then watched the original afterward and picked up on some of the small yet extremely important details missing in Brotherhood as the creators when making Brotherhood said a big 'fuck you' to people who hadn't saw the original and made it so you MUST watch the original first to get any of the emotion, character depth, and even have any feelings toward anything at all. Without the original... Brotherhood would have failed miserably.
brittkn33
I like Brotherhood better. But I think that's because I watched that first and read the manga before ever seeing the first series. So while watching the first series I was just like WTf is going on O____OBrotherhood has better animation, a way better ending, and I just love how it follows the manga so perfectly. I still love both series though xD.
mstiles92
I personally like Brotherhood better. FMA was the series that really got me into anime in the first place, and it was my favorite up until Brotherhood. I just think that the story of Brotherhood was better, in my opinion. Myrodis19
I personally like the original better for the reasons Koby stated a few posts above. Plus i fel that the animation is about the same and the original has a better plot over all sure brotherhood may go by the manga but so what doesnt make it better, i truly believe that half of you have not even watched the original. Jamdestroyer
I prefer FMA because it just seems to me like they didn't go into near as much deph in brotherhood, honestly I was disappointed with how fast they flew through everything. Shuro
I prefer the new series, only because it has more characters with very interesting backstories, such as Ling and his friends.
kirathaune
As someone who owns the first series and the Conqueror of Shamballa movie, I have to say that I like Brotherhood better, but only a little. Now, I will agree that it seems to gloss over all of the events of the first series and I think they (wrongly) assume that Brotherhood viewers have already seen the first series. But once I started looking at it as a "reboot" I was able to enjoy it more. The emotions runs darker in this one, and it's neat to see the different directions it's taking.I will probably buy Brotherhood once it's out in a full series set. Trend
Well From what I've seen so far I'd say that I like brotherhood better, but I don't think it would have been quite as good if I hadn't seen the original.
britata348
I like brotherhood. It was never slow for me, and kept me entertained, and was just well-rounded and awesome.
