Yep, like humans, we never changed into a different kind, we improved from homo whatever to homo sapiens sapiens. ^_^

exactly. the chain of evolution is in separate branches. NOT one tree.

Actually, it IS one tree.

With MANY, MANY...insanely many...branches.

:P

no, humans have always been humans. dogs have always been dogs, down the line with each separate kind. Only way anything would conjoin is cross breeding.

Please tell me you're just trolling.

Dog were once wolves.

Humans were once more primitive sapiens.

Except even Homo sapiens have been shown to evolve over time.

We, as a species, have actually gotten TALLER.

Homo Superior will be the next one..if u know wat i mean. hehehehe

The theory of man evolving has been present way before Darwins theory of natural selection.  I am also aware of other theories of evolution not just Darwins, and just like religion each one controdicting each other.

Theres Lamarchism, neo - lamarchism, theory of germplasm, darwinism/theory of natural selection, neo darwinism, etc.  Pick one theres quite a few.  Theres even a theory proposeing we spent a time as mermaids, the aquatic ape hypothesis.  They actually do have something in comman though, and thats the complete rejection of God except for a few other dumb ones that mix both God and evolution together that is.

Also in reference to a quote, "poof and thus we were," mad by Tanis, you gotta remember that scientists (or I should say athiests) were the ones who coined the Big Bang Theory.  Because after realizing that the universe had a beginning, thus pointing to a creater, they refused to come to that conclusion and instead chose to believe that all came frome a big chaotic explostion that after billions of years created order, life, and all we see today.  And hey if you want to believe that go ahead, what ever makes you happy.  The theory doeas make you your own God after all.

Remember scientists thought the universe was alwayes there, but now we now it had a beginning whatever that means to anyone is for them to decide.  We are constetly learning and we use that knowledge to shape the world around us and how we think, making old ideas and  theories obsolete (even though some might not realize it yet) .  Everyone is going to believe in what they want, usually its the one that suits their lifestyle.  Evolution seems to fit most peoples lifestyle. 'do what you want, and not worry about the consecuences after death.' I can see why evolution is so popular, people don't want to be held accountable to someone and they really don't want to be held accountable for their own actions either.

You're mixing up 'theory' with 'scientific theory'.

A word can have more than one meaning.

-SEE: Bat, Bitch, etc

You're mixing up 'scientists' with 'religious leaders'.

You're also claiming that all scientists are atheists.

This...this is just a lie.

But, to be fair, the GRANDFATHER of computers.

-This thing you're using, with the keyboard and such.

He was a HOMOSEXUAL and an ATHEIST.

So...cool, right?

Plus you're also ignorant of two different fields of study.

Cosmology deals with 'The Big Bang'.

Biology deals with evolution.

You're also equating evolution with unethical behavior.

This is also a facile perpetuated by those cowardly, ignorant, religious folks who want to make a political issue where this is none.

That being said...

Just because YOU need some Sky Daddy to stop you from being a rapist or murder or glutton or thief.

Doesn't mean people like me, who don't rape or murder or gorge or steal because it's WRONG, need that invisible carrot to keep us moral/ethical.

You're just another example of why our educational system needs an overhaul.

Ignorance such as yours is a relic of the Dark Ages.

But, hey, keep on it.

The more fools like you there are, the more good paying jobs for smart people there will be.

;)

Also:

Seriously, read a science book.

No, really, please.

You're complete lack of education with regards to evolution, the Big Bang, and just basic reasoning is really sad.

Unless you're one of those people who would rather be ignorant because it's easier than actually learning.

I'd just like to reiterate that accepting evolution as "theory" or fact (whichever makes you more comfortable I'm not jumping into what seems like a futile argument) does not mean it has anything to do with lifestyle choice. Some people just go with what they feel is the most plausible explanation and leave it at that. I mean, that sounded a bit... Well, let's just say that whether or not you agree with the way someone chooses to live their life is irrelevant to the larger scheme of things (since you are not to be their judge) and beyond irrelevant to anyone who doesn't follow your personal belief system.
I have never once thought anything like "Hah. I'm going to be adhere to this particular belief system so I can be a depraved little shyte who doesn't have to worry about consequences." That's more or less a fragment of the definition of a sociopath, not someone who just happens to accept the scientific theory of evolution.
Not to mention, you can accept evolution and religion simultaneously. So.

I've never even played with the notion that someone judges me when I die. It doesn't come up in my thought process.
You shouldn't just assume that everyone needs a scapegoat or some big bad overseer to live their lives successfully and/or with a "moral compass." I mean, I personally think quite a few viewpoints held by some religious folk are immoral, judgmental, hypocritical, or outdated.

The theory doeas make you your own God after all.

I'm sorry, but no.

I did not mean to group all who believe in evolution together, so if my post came across as that then I'm sorry.  I would also like to now your thoughts on my own comment, "The theory does make you your own God after all." hopefully you can elaberate on more than just saying, "I'm sorry, but no."  Mind you I do like learning about how other people think on religion, evolution, and other topics aswell.  If you do replay I'm hoping its not like a post from someone who seemed to only accomplish calling me ignorant, and than continue to insault me. lol.

If you post stupid, ignorant, stuff...you're gonna get called out on it.

Yours is a WILLING ignorance.

The internet is more than just a means for you to get anime and porn.

There's an amazing database of trustworthy information out there with regards to science.

ANYONE who shows a willing ignorance disgusts me.

I don't care who or what they are.

When you CHOOSE to remain in the dark, it's offensive to me.

@Sal:

God, as defined by many monotheistic religions, is an existence (a being) that created all life as we know it with an intent. What that intent was varies, I think. But it was a conscious desire to create, to witness, and (in some cases) to judge. A supreme being able to warp the universe to its will.
The theory that the potential for life was nudged into being by the sudden collision and expansion of the universe does not make the products of that event gods. It just makes us the result. Unless the believer holds that the universe has intent, no conscious being summoned life into existence. We are not our own creators... unless you want to romanticize it and say something like we were born from stardust and thus we are, by association/extension, the universe that created us.

If instead you meant that you believe being able to control one's own life/values/destiny makes one a god, then that's simply your own perspective/prerogative. The universe is filled with millions of perceptions and realities. I, however, don't believe having authority over oneself makes one a god. We govern ourselves, but as individuals, fellows and peers intent on living. Not as gods.

You can say that it's not a good idea, but it's not bad either. Talking with other people about each other's beliefs and opinions is a great source of knowledge, don't you think? Debating is also a good way to exercise our minds, so as long as no one posts offensive stuff here then it's good. :)

All sensitive topics like this are bound to cause offense. In my case, if I offend anyone it's most likely unintentional. I'm just pretty blunt with my thoughts (it tends to get me into trouble).
If, by chance, I've offended someone in a way that was taken personally rather than just as an affront to your beliefs, I apologize.

Though I do agree with Gwapogi. In the midst of this conversation, I've questioned myself more than once. It's occasionally good to analyze your own beliefs since you do live by them. I mostly just aim for offering some insight on common misconceptions about people who don't believe in God. I live surrounded by religion. It's not very often anyone understands my viewpoint.

The Muslims who blow up stuff, they just use God as an excuse for their own agenda. You think they blew up the twin towers just to convert people to muslim(yes thats long ago). Think about it.

People shouldn't judge that religion is the cause of everything.

Evolution was something Charles Dawin thought when he saw apes acting similar to humans, he then went to prove that evolution exists.

And now days people use that as an excuse for their bad behaviour, "we're all animals", or "it's human nature".

Of course caveman were considered animal people, now people think that because they come from that line, they can act like animals.

Religion is not the cause of everything, it's people. People are the cause of everything shitty in this world.

So don't blame religion, and for others, don't blame evolution.

O boy...

1) Apes had little, if anything, to do with Charles Dawin research.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_voyage_of_HMS_Beagle

2) Nobody uses evolution to justify their bad behavior.

This is a LIE perpetuated by religious people who can't stand people acting moral without the fear of hell (or the variations on it).

3) Why don't people use evolution to justify bad behavior?

Because evolution has NOTHING to do with that.

4) Cavemen aren't, scientifically, 'animals' anymore than the Sumerians or Ancient Egyptians were.

Just because YOU lack a moral compass, doesn't mean the rest of us do.

5) When you believe, with all your heart, that 'god' will give you power or eternal life or in some way reward you for whatever your religious leaders and text tell you...

Then you're a sheep that's more than willing to jump off a cliff or murder a 'whore' with rocks because she broke some moronic law about sexuality.

Or, to quote Steven Weinberg:

Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

What if Religion was invented by aliens so that the human race won't be able to reach what the extraterrestrials have achieved? *trollface*

JK, I'm just saying that Religion is one of the reasons why some people are stupid. They rely too much on their god and tend to be a happy-go-lucky person believing that they have "prayed" enough to achieve something...which is kinda stupid cause it's obvious that prayer and belief alone won't make things the way you like it.

@ Tanis, you're against religion

Evolution is a theory, whether now it's proven or not idk.

All I'm saying is that people are to blame for wars and terrorist acts, not religion or evoluion.

Will wars stop if religion is gone? People themselves need to change(not evolve). I do believe in God, the fact the we are still alive today proves that. How do we, the earth which has all the basic necessities we need to survive, and the sun which we need as well, come by chance.

Whether evolution is proven or not, I don't believe that shit about us coming by chance. Ancient people were able to move boulders in tons, making huge buildings that still puzzle some. Instead of actually thinking they people can do things like that, they say aliens came and helped them or gave them tools. People feel at that time we were still "evolving", so humans couldn't have done that.

I'm against ANYTHING that is against facts.

Evolution is a much a theory a gravity.

Would you be willing to jump off of a tall building to test it out?

A 'scientific theory' is different than a 'layman's theory'.

It's basic, messy, English.

Look it up. Websters.

Would it STOP wars?

No, but that's not the point I was making.

Bad stuff happens, it always has and always will.

There will always be crazy people in the world.

At least until we figure out how to cure/better treat psychopaths and the human desire to 'follow the leader'.

The thing is...

Religion makes it easier to justify things like treating women as property, raping a 9 year old girl, slavery, 'honor' killings, etc.

An atheist has never strapped a bomb to their check or lead a 'holy war'.

That we are alive does not prove a 'god'.

A doesn't always equal or come after B.

Anymore than B equals or comes before A.

Your post are RIDDLED with basic, logical, facile.

EVOLUTION IS NOT ABOUT 'CHANCE'.

Before you post, THINK.

Before you post, READ.

You lack any basic understand of evolution.

What the fuck do 'aliens' have to do with evolution?

Unless you talking about creationism/intelligent design.

Stop moving the goal post.

At least TRY and back up your statements, instead of moving on to some other poorly thought out argument.

Nope, we are still alive because we know how to survive, not because of this god that uses magic but cannot prove that he exists.

Oh, and I found this list while preparing for my report last school year.

-Polio

-Yellow Fever

And, please.

Seriously, please.

Before you come back with 'cuz I say so' ignorance...

READ A SCIENCE BOOK!

Maybe if you open up your mind to facts, you'll evolve into something other than a parrot for your religious leaders.

Remember that time someone forgot to say 'bless you' and then someone died because of it?

O, wait, that's right...

O, and remember how Christians, Muslims, and Jews are all like 'pagans are bad'...

While their days are named after pagan gods.

While many of their holy days are based on, or inspired by, older...pagan...religions stuff.
While saying 'bless you' after someone sneezes is based on a tradition dating back to Classical (pagan) Greeks?

While their books basically plagiarized earlier, pagan, religious stories.

Monotheist are so cray cray.
