Unfortunately haven't found anything great that is free without pirating so I've made all my AMV's with Windows Movie Maker. It's kind of limited with its effects and all and even more limited in what you can save it as but I've figured out an optimal saving setting that comes out really good compared to past AMV's I have done with it.

If you want to make GOOD AMV's you need something a bit more powerful than Movie Maker.

I personally use Premiere Pro and After Effects, they can produce AMAZING results. They can be used on a trial period for 30 days, which is fine for a contest like this, of if you know where to look, they are free.
