Koby
Unfortunately haven't found anything great that is free without pirating so I've made all my AMV's with Windows Movie Maker. It's kind of limited with its effects and all and even more limited in what you can save it as but I've figured out an optimal saving setting that comes out really good compared to past AMV's I have done with it. † The Joker
Idealy, you want software like Sony Vegas or Adobe Video Editing. Unfortunatly not free, but they allow for some AMAZING amv's.unfortunately free is rather limited. So I stick with Movie maker

† L4ugh
If you don't mind a learning curve you can try the linux based Cinelerra, its open source. http://www.heroinewarrior.com/cinelerra.phpI can't offer much help on the workings of it however because I'm still learning it myself. DoctorDazza
If you want to make GOOD AMV's you need something a bit more powerful than Movie Maker. I personally use Premiere Pro and After Effects, they can produce AMAZING results. They can be used on a trial period for 30 days, which is fine for a contest like this, of if you know where to look, they are free.
