I'm a tradesman in the field of printing. I’ve been in the printing game since January 2005, and have been a 'tradey since early 2008. The money is pretty damn good, relative perhaps to some doctors and solicitors. Minus the stress and hard work, that is; at least compared to their jobs. The best part however, is that I normally work 3 X 12-hour nightshifts. Which means that I have four-day weekends, and I never have to worry about punching out any annoying bosses/supervisors. Unlike when I was a 'schooly working at MacDonalds. >_@

Printing for me simply details getting my colossal machine going, which is a piece of piss once you've been running them for a while. The stuff that I print may range from hundreds of thousands of newspaper inserts, calendars, catalogues, posters and such material. Rarely books and magazines, for me. The average sheet size is usually 650X910mm, which when trimmed is about eight A4 sheets, though I do occasionally work with even larger sheet sizes such as A0; which is full-size. Things can go wrong from time to time and you must constantly check sheets for colour variation and whatnot, so there is a rather technical side to printing. I’ve got most of it pretty down pat though so I am quite confident at my job.

At the moment though, I'm only working casually which is usually just a few ten-hour shifts each week if that. Loving the free time, although I'd jump at a fulltime job any day. Four-day weekends is still plenty of time off. >_> It is 36-hours worth, although as a shifty of that kind you get paid breaks so there are no deductions of that nature. The downside is that I could not go back to some 5-day week job to save my life. Nightshift also means Zero Traffic on the roads.

I am a forensic scientist. I work in the drug unit at the crime lab, and so far I am only trained in the analysis of marijuana (I'm still kinda new). I receive suspected marijuana evidence, test it for the absence or presence of marijuana, and testify to my results as an expert witness in a court of law.
