The tallest mountain on Earth is Mount Everest.

Are you sure about that? Mauna Kea, the mountain itself, rises ~10 000m from the depths of the Pacific Ocean. Mt. Everest is only ~8 800m above sea level, the actual 'mountain' is not as tall. Also, if you define "tallest" mountain as greatest distance from the center of the Earth, the award would go to Chimborazo. (Although, this does not hold well when defining highest/tallest mountain, as the Earth is not spherical and Chimborazo has an advantage by being closer to the equator.)
