presenting the OUYA ^^

536bc48a330146cbaee25434119977af_large.jpg?1343420807

an open source android gaming console and it's under $100

it's got a Tegra 3 quad core processor, 1GB ram, 8GB internal flash storage, a HDMI connection for up to 1080p, WiFi 802.11, Bluetooth LE 4.0, Android 4.0 (ice cream sandwich), Ethernet and 1 USB 2.0 port

anyone barfing rainbows yet? XD

not only can you root the console (and it doesn't void the warranty). but it has game development software built in, so you can make you own game on the console

oh and it's controller is awesome to it's like a cross between the ps3 controller and the xbox controller with a touch screen, it's stylish and sleek

anyway it's not gonna be in stores until march 2013 but still it's something to look forward to right? XD

you can find out more bout the ouya from http://www.kickstart...eo-game-console

so what do ya all think of the upcoming console?

-Shrugs- I'll stick with my sleek ps3

no, no you won't. At least not once this thing quite literally steals the entire console market. Every single game is free to play. Every one. It supports the fastest growing market....AND considering the indie status and economic woe sony is in....... OUYA ALLL THE WAY!!

Yes, yes I will =) It won't steal the market, it'll have some catch to it that'll make people not want it

hahahaha. Not true at all. It is quite literally the culmination of what every single avid gamer has wanted for the past 2 decades. I mean, the fact that you can create you own game is amazing. Just look at the amount of donations. That tells you a lot about this project...

It IS the future. Finally the idiots at Microsoft and Sony are being challenged by real people.... BRING IT ON!!!!

OUYA definitely scoring points for being ambitious but I really love the fact that it's allowing so much creationism to come from the console. It's never going to overthrow the others in the long run but it's certainly going to be the oddball console that has those features the others don't have.

It has way better specs than any current gen console that's for sure, in terms of ram anyway, but then again so does a microwave these days. I want to see this succeed, even if I have developed a hate for consoles in general, this is definitely a positive step forward...though keyboard and mouse support would be nice though.

As what Dark Angel said i'll stick with my ps3. Call me a fool or whatever but God of War, Uncharted, Naruto Ninja Storm, Fifa are the reasons why i play my ps3 and buy games and all of those are made for my console so I WILL enjoy it while i have it. And even if better games will be soon made for the OUYA, remember that the next generation xbox and playstation aren't that far away and we don't know yet what they have to offer..........so until then i aint buying this but just wait to see what will happen

How do you even pronounce the name of the console? haha.

I'll wait to see what titles get released on day one and such first before buying into all of this, but if it does what it hopes to; which is bring game developers back to the TV instead of doing all those hand-held games then I'm all for it.

I don't like having to buy every different console just to play one game on each. Almost all the games that interest me seem to be coming out on DS or PSP, but I don't own either and I don't want to. I play games at home and I have a big screen TV for a reason. I don't want to be playing on a tiny little screen I can barely see. So yeah, bring gaming back to the big screen folks!

I like that this console will be affordable from day one too.

People spend a small fortune on just consoles these days. $300 for Wii, $400 for 360, and $600 for PS3 were the initial pricing of the current gen consoles before price drops happened. This upcoming generation seems like it'll be a little cheaper, at least where the PS4 is concerned, but still. You still have things like the DS and PSP and constantly having new ones coming out that people have to upgrade to so they can experience all the features of the game, etc.. People are too broke to buy games after buying consoles.

I remember when I bought a PS2 on release day. I was able to buy 3-4 games with it. As for PS3 I had to wait several years after release to even afford it, then several months after purchasing to be able to afford any games to play on it. That's just ridiculous. Most people don't even buy computers for as much as they put into consoles, yet a computer allows you to do so much more.

In my head, I say "ooh-ya". I think they said the name in a video on their Kickstarter page. It looks promising, but yeah, I'd have to see what games they make for it first. I know some of my friends have said that it's worth buying just for Minecraft alone, but that isn't my bag. All the tech specs are fine and good, but if they don't have any games worth playing on it, seems like a waste.

It is affordable, but that alone doesn't justify purchasing it. I mean, a lot of things are affordable and well within our budget--doesn't mean it's worth buying. We're not hoarders, haha.

IMO minecraft is completely stupid, haha.

So far, about the only thing interesting I've heard coming out on OUYA is a console version of Final Fantasy III (3).

Actually, every game has a free option. Meaning it can only be a demo that is free and you need to pay for the full game. It can compete with older computers and play Xbox arcade/PSN games, but the next gen is coming soon. Also, 8Gb of storage... that's not a lot... my phone has 16Gb (32Gb version available) and can have up to 64Gb through a microSD card. Of course you could plug in an external hard drive through USB, but it will be slower.

Android 4.0? my phone came with it and I can upgrade to 4.1 and later. 1080p? my phone has that. quad core? Okay, my phone only has dual, but the Xbox 360 has 3 (some may be software only) but it came out 7 years ago.

But with that said, my phone came out this year and is kind of a beast (Samsung Galaxy S3)

I am not trying to bash it into the ground, the idea of an "open" console is good, but it will not steal the market. I'm not sure that bigger companies will make games for it, because they won't see a way to make money, so a lot of players won't make the change (ex: Activision and it's Call of Duty players).
